Thank you Judy!!!!
I'm so excited that I can barely type! It was a very good interview. She said how impressed she was with the questions I asked.
The schedule she offered me would be every other weekend (Fri, Sat and Sun) 3pm-11pm. She gave me several shifts, but that's the only one that I knew would remotely come close to working out for me. So, she told me she had to follow up on my references and for me to go home and go over the schedule to see what may possibly work for me. The facility is VERY small and VERY clean. All of the residents except two are mobile and their outside family are very involved (picking up the residents and taking them out to lunch, shopping, etc). I asked her if the routines are a constant rush, or if the CNA's have time to actually spend WITH the residents visiting, playing games, etc and she said that the CNA's have a lot of downtime and all she requires is that they not sit around doing nothing. They have frequent "family days" where the CNA's get to bring their family to certain functions at the facility. The residents love to see children, so she told me to bring my children by anytime for a visit.
The BEST part though is that she would train me for FREE to get my Med Tech certification! Once trained, I'll go to Raleigh for testing and when I become a Med Tech, I'll get Med Tech pay, plus .50/hr. To take a Med Tech class here, it's $175.00. She said it would help me tremendously when I started the nursing program because I would already be familiar with a lot of the drugs and I would know how to give insulin injections.
I still have to get my tb skin test, a personal letter of reference, and Hep B series, and several other things.
Oh...I was worried that the schedule wouldn't work. When I was on my way home, I stopped by the grocery store (we were out of bread) and my mom was there. She ran up and asked how the interview went and I told her that the schedule wouldn't work because of the weekends Steve works. She said "I'll watch them! It will only be every other weekend of every other month". I argued with her and she told me that I would be stupid to pass this up. So that took care of the childcare on the weekends that Steve works!!!
Oooooh, I'm so excited! She hasn't actually HIRED me yet, but she told me to get her all of the other information she needed and she would be in touch with me.
Cross your fingers that I get it!!! I'm going tomorrow to get all of the information together. My friends mom is going to write me a letter of recommendation since she's known me since I was a kid. She's always telling me that I'd make a great nurse or doing something with kids. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want this job though. It is such a nice facility and they're very involved with the residents.
