God established the death penalty for murder... After the flood...

God also established abortion. Read Numbers 5:11-31. There should be an option for those of us who support early-term abortions (before 18 weeks) under any and all circumstances.

Now, look at your post, were the Israelites worshiping The One true God, or just the ones they chose? Oh Yes, where in your quotes did you see baby sacrifices?
They worshiped Yaweh and others. Yaweh was one of their gods that did not believe in human sacrifice. (This is a problem for the legitimancy of the Jesus sacrifice.) Yaweh is the "One True God" of the Jews and Christians and later the Muslims. It is just each religion characterizes Him differently.

So these people were killing children for their gods (don't know how young the children were or if they were babies or not). How are they any better than the people of Jericho?

First, since you don't know the ages, you've already put them above the people of Jerico. As for their behavior, they get punished when the are sent into exile. They also are punished because they would later be the group of people who hated Jesus the most, their own Messiah. I think that God punished them.

The Exodus happened before the Hebrews dedicated themselves only to Yaweh.

basically back then, there were plagues, wars, acts of nature, etc. So something was always happening bad around the world. All a tribe had to do back them was claim their god did it. I guess it is the same today.
