Now we read in Acts of the apostles Chapter 2 that Peter after explaining to the multitudes about Jesus Christ he tell them to Repent and be baptized that they may receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Now looking at all the gospels Jesus commands to the people to repent. We see this number of times. He also draws a parallel to the people of Sodom.

Now what is backsliding, is not getting into the old way of man? If a person once repented and gave his life to Jesus Christ then why does he backslide? If he backslides then can we assume that he hasn't repented in the first place.

Looking at the life of David, a man of God's own heart. We see that David fell once and he returned to God, asking forgiveness to God and that was true Repentance.

But how about the modern believer? He falls a many number of times and can we say that if he really repented in the first place?

Now if repentance is not connected to salvation then why does Jesus say a man number of times

Repent Repent Repent?????

Do you know what the word "repent" means to do?

try to find a modern believer(in the place you live; in the untied states i have looked all across the country, north and south, east to west) who follows Yeshua in the Way no matter what the cost ---
it looks like "modern believers" have a lot more to do instead. (their aren't many who stay on Yeshua's Way).

Matthew 7:13-14Expanded Bible (EXB)
The Way to Heaven Is Hard

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. [L Because] The gate is wide and the road is ·wide [broad; spacious; or easy] that leads to ·hell [L destruction; ruin], and many people enter through that gate. 14 But the gate is small and the road is ·narrow [or difficult; hard] that leads to true life. ·Only a few people [And there are few who] find that road.

If you want to explain you are most welcome. Repent means to turn back to God. How is backsliding not related to repentance?
In "repenting", you are not turning back to God. If that were the case, all the Jews who never accepted Christ, but came to earnestly give sacrifices to God all the time would be seen as "repentant".

Repenting is to understand that the way you are going is NOT what God wants for you, and deciding (making a choice) to change your mind about your path in your spiritual journey. It is , basically, changing our mind to now do as Jesus asks us.... which is never what we were doing before we heard about Him.

So...... if you have made up your mind to follow Jesus, and you get off track and lazy..... have you truly changed your mind NOT to love Jesus, or have you just gotten off track and lazy?

Then why did Jesus draw a parallel with people of Sodom? They were punished because they sinned against God and I don't think it had anything to do with their spiritual journey

Metanoe,w, metanoeo: change your mind, repent; translated repent.

Metanoe is a transitive verb and requires a object or a subject implied or stated.

Mark 1:15 and saying, “ The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

They are to repent from their unbelief in the Gospel. They are to change their mind about the Gospel. Notice it does NOT say repent from all your sins.

Acts 20:21 (NASB95)
21 solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
They are to change their mind about God and about faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Not change their mind about sin.

Here is a verse that someone repented(Changed their mind about their sin)......Metame,llomai, metamellomai: change your emotion, regret; translated repent.

3Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

He repented of his sin, but he did not repent(Change his mind) of who the innocent blood really was.

NOw you have to make me understand why Jesus draws the word "Repent" parallel to Sodom. The people of Sodom sinned against God and it had nothing to do with believing the Gospel of Christ

Backsliding is to allow your human fallen nature to take control of your behavior AFTER your Born again Experience has allowed you to recognize that you have been given
the power to pursue righteousness and holiness instead of your natural carnal desires.

What specific verses are you speaking of?

What specific verses are you speaking of?

Matthew 11
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

It's exactly what I said. They, very obviously, weren't doing what God wanted for them. And they had no intention of changing their minds about the path they were traveling.

Now this is completely different from Pharisees and other religious jewish sect. There were people in the sect who were devoted to God. So I think both are different things. When you said Repentance means changing the spiritual path then my question is if the people of Sodom were spiritual in the first place?

Every single person on the planet who has ever lived, or will ever live is walking a spiritual journey. You cannot get around that.... everyone IS a spirit.

That sounds interesting but it's a common perception. So you want me to assume that the people of Sodom in those days were doing evil deeds with ignorance?
