Is debating arguing?

I haven't watch much debates. given the nature of what you said. its a show as well of who is pretty. I don't bother. honest questions verses loaded questions.
I have watched several debates between the Messianic Jew, Michael Brown, and well known Rabbis and other leaders within the Jewish community. Mr. Brown's goal is always to lead them to the Messiah. I have been trying to learn from him because I know his intentions are righteous and not about selfish goals. They also contain a lot of great insight from both sides. Anyone who wishes to lead Jews to Messiah could learn from these debates, I believe.
The debates are monitored, timed, and by the rules of debate in presentation.

off topic, I checked into learning modern Hebrew. get this Hebrew university out of isreal used the tanach to teach you the vowels points(old Hebrew) and modern Hebrew is taught when you interact with jews in isreal. that is what they said. I know that modern Hebrew of today and the letters since the time of Christ haven't changed. I wonder what bias they will have when they teach the shemah, or use it.

YHVH is One. I really don't know anything about the Shemah.
I think any schooling we get in certain things will always be taught with a bias. I know Jake's home school program is.
So in teaching Hebrew they can influence the student's views about God, etc. by using the Talmud. It's like the Bible being used in the past to teach kids to read.

Who wants a debate?. I want to have a debate. Choose a subject, any subject. Maybe its something you want to get off your chest and knowone seems to understand your point of view. You go on atttack and i will go defence, just to annoy you. I will study whatever the issue is about and go defence just to make you more mad.

See how good a lawyer i could have made. So. Who wants debate?.

As it goes. Rules are first to get angry or abusive or use caplocks loses.

Common, attack me with all you got.

What color is the sky? Blue or clear? I SAY ITS BOTH OK SO STOP FIGHTING WITH ME!

Geez that sure is graphic.
When I get mad I take a bag of frozen peas and put it on stomachs/ anywhere sensitive on the body. I learned this from my MIL.
It's very effective.

I do it occasionally to Matt.

That sucks. Sorry about that.

I dont care. God is the real witness. Man can convict the innocent easy. It dont take much. Jesus is the Judge of all Judges. He will have the last say. Just like he was given 39 lashes for nothing and had a crown of thorns dumped on his head.

I mean serious. The most righteous man who ever lived, just being himself and preaching goodness, healing sick people, having compassion and loving all, preaching love, mercy and forgiveness got a crown of thorns stabbed on his head and nailed to a cross. Ever seen a cross of crusifixion. Its nasty. Nasty i tell you. That is torture to a pulp. Its worse than a ISIS cutting off someones head. Thats just John the Baptist. Quick come and quick gone.

ISIS is nothing. They weak. Cutting off a head is just mocking John the Baptist. God is always one step ahead. No matter how hard the world tries. They cannot kill Jesus.

Another person who was unjustly accused and thrown in jail for doing right was Joseph. Not to mention that his brothers selling him into slavery, got him to egypt in the first place. But as you said God is gracious and totally caused Joseph to excel above all others! THEE BLESSING of Abraham was on his life and it caused him to prosper, thus saving a nation.

thanks for sharing dan!

I do NOT like debating. It always comes across to me as arguing.
When you debate with others, do you and your debato-ree discuss the same exact opinion in different ways?
Do you get ticked off a lot? Be honest now.

There's a reason I stay from the Discussion and Debate forum. :tongue
I used to get ticked off alot, but I didnt give up on confronting my fears. Now debating is fun.

the shemah has the echad in it which in Hebrew according to some is singular not plural

Actually Kiwi, what you may be describing is an argument rather than a debate. Ask most lawyers and they will admit that they do not let their emotions get involved in their work. In fact, sometimes the prosecutor and the defense attorney will go out for drinks together after the case is over. Because if you think about it, there's no reason to get mad at someone who's making your client pay you.
oh, and see what I did there....:tongue

I would have to assume that, seeing they use the Talmud, they would interpret the echad as being One singular, rather than plural. ?

Debate can be a good learning tool, but because people let their emotions get too involved it can easily become an argument. Debate should be about learning, getting to know your arguments better and learning more about the opposing arguments, rather than making people agree with you.Thank
I have a love/hate relationship with debate. It's a nightmare to me, even without people's attitudes there's a lot of pressure to present your case in a way so as to be convincing to others. But on the other hand I do enjoy discussing things intelligently.

yes I absolutely agree with this. Imagine if everyone just held to only their own view and "kept it to themselves"....How would anyone have ever come to Christ? I have learned and grew in many fine ways through healthy discussion and LISTENING to others give the reasons and support for their view....I was an agnostic, had some supernatural experiences, went into the occult, began to search for a God, the gods, whatever...and then He found me....since then my understanding has radically changed....thank God He brought me people willing to correct me

yes, well silly me. of course any jew would use the tanach that was the only time they spoke it , in the temple! Hebrew for the temple and Yiddish for outside. shows you how little I know.

Some things are easier to see when one is not directly connected to it in their personal lives. I don't have family members in Judaism, as you do.
