Attraction can be felt for numerous reasons. But I'd hold off on believing it's love and not just attraction until you meet. for me I fell for my wife more and more each day we dated because of her kindness and thoughtfulness (towards anyone). It was an attribute that I don't think I had seen that strong with my previous relationships and it made me love her more and more.

Yes I believe you can get to know somebody through the written word.
During the war women wrote to men in the forces, men they had never met. Many fell in love and we're married within weeks of coming home. Their marriages lasted. Probably because they loved their minds. Looks fade .
