Is Rock music sinful ?

Good Celtic Christian Music ...

GrayJedi_Lightshade said:
no, but if those are similar to the genre previously mentioned, then I will deff make a note of them, good sir! XD :)

Definitely some good Celtic Christian music to listen to:

-- Ceili Rain
-- Marty McCall
-- Michael Card
-- Iona
-- Eden's Bridge?

I think when Jesus comes riding out of heaven to defeat the armys of the world there is gonna be some serious rock and roll in the back ground!

Perhaps it will be a Pentecost experience, where we each hear the music of our natural inclination.

I fully expect there to be a banjo, cello, and piano present. ;)

The last message boards i was on had this subject come up as well. 1 person in particular was so self righteous & judgemental, they would just post album covers & Christian metal bands & say 'how can that be Christian?' Over & over. Then, you quote some of the lyrics, strong Christian lyrics, & they always managed to ignore those & just find another album cover they thought was wrong. They stirred up a lot of dissention among everyone. Finally their closed-mindedness, standing in judgement, & frequent use of half truths & sensationalism drop me to the brink, whereby i lovingly tore them a new one & quit the boards. I only hope that doesn't happen here too.
I have listened to Christian metal for 21 yrs now. God has used it to teach me, encourage me, entertain me, i've used it at times as praise, even. I'm thankful i had it. It helped me a lot when i suffered from depression & anger. It also inspired me to write during those times, so i was able to both vent frustrations, & allow me to even see sides of myself & my faith i may have otherwise not thought about, or been aware of. Can you honestly say that is 'evil or sinful by its nature'?

Praise God my friend :clap
It really irks me when I hear people who think that their hymnals are somehow sacred and modern music is from the devil. I'm no historian but I'm pretty sure Jesus and the twelve did not sing/listen to either Celtic music or anything by Isaac Watts or Charles Wesley or Fanny Crosby for that matter. Rock on dude!

There is no "good" or "bad" music.

Only "good" or "bad" lyrics.

I agree. Music is a medium, it's the lyrics that make it good or bad. All genres can be a means of worship. ALL!!!!

It can be an artistic expression, a way to blow off steam, a way to have fun, or an excuse to let go of yourself.

It depends on on the purpose it is being used for. If I'm listening to ministry while drawing I doubt it. If I'd be using it to rebel and live a "lifestyle" probably.

it all depends on its purpose of the creator and the listener. :yes
exactly, i dont remember the coordinates of the verse, but i remember reading something in the bible that talks about god looking at the true intention of your works rather then the way "man" sees it. this is why i say people are stupid for calling christian metal bands satanic. it's pretty easy to tell where a bands intentions are just by reading the lyrics, as far as secular music goes, i would limit the amount of it one listens too, god tells us to "think on things which are good and of him" (once again, dont remember the verse) when faced with christian music we should examine the lyrics. i have 3 points i ask myself, does it praise god? is it uplifting? does it increase your strength in faith? if it meets these criteria for me, i say it's good christian music. one of my favorite christian black metal bands would be slechtvalk i will show you the lyrics to it just to give you an idea of what its about.

Why hast thou forsaken me?
Why hast thou turned away thy face
From me thy servant in distress
Oh Lord bent me thine ear!
All night long I drown in my tears
My bones are vexed,
My heart is sore and vexed
Water rises to my lips
My throat is sore, I cannot speak
Lord I beg thee to free me of this grief
Which still haunts my soul,
And makes my heart grow cold
I am merely all skin over bone
My flesh is too weak to resist the temptations
Which the evil layeth upon my path
I fear I yield to this heavy burden
What has become of the son, who loved me
For so many years and
Now calls me into doubt
He who has worshipped me for so long
Now lives under the spell of the wicked
That brings his soul
Only further in Darkness
Away from love and closer to hatred
Don't you know that I'll always love you?
Return to me and I'll take care of you
I'll bring peace in your mind
And rest in your troubled heart
I will treat you as my son
I'll make you a warrior of the Light"
Nightly creatures still haunt my soul
Crawling against the walls of my broken heart
Screaming inhuman blasphemous words
Exalting the hordes of demon lords
Where are you God?!?!
"Here, waiting for you my son."
I will always love you Lord
Even in times of terrible Darkness
Nothing can stop me from worshipping you
Even if it means the end of my earthly life

this song has brought me out of depression and despair many times and has given me courage and strength and a renewal of faith

If rock music is sinful then i am a satanist.

**Belive it or not but one of my favorite bands is Slipknot..Google them if you dare, lol***

yeah, sure. ok. And I guess ALL Celtic folk songs are okay to listen to because they don't have electric guitar or a double-bass pedaled drumset? Celtic folk songs, for example, talk about sex and drinkin more often than all different types of rock music combined.

The mere fact that Christian artists have succumbed to the rock genre, no longer makes it an arguable fact that ALL rock music is related to sex, drugs, and booze. Now rock music IS being used to glorify God. Your statement, valen.rossa, is invalid. It is made invalid by the fact that Christian rock bands exist.

And let's say that the people who first dove into the "rock" genre talked/sung about, and even exercised a loose life filled with the dirty 3. Would you think of figure-skating the same way if some slut or manwhore became famous for being good at it?

If you reply to this valen.rossa, I will be very impressed that you live up to your cause. But if you don't, you're just like all those other hasty generalizers out there. Congratulations.

good day

lets look at it from this point of view, people say rock music is bad because it is "wordly" music, now back when the psalms were written they used the same instruments and styles of music as the pagans used, but with different lyrics. case closed, there is no such thing as sinful music, only sinful lyrics

Last time I checked God created everything and that includes rock and metal! :)

I BEG TO DIFFER!!!!!! :mad

Not the entire genre. To say that all of rock is sinful is a bit extreme. Some rock bands, yes. But that's going to be present in every music genre, not just rock.
And consider this, I have heard Christian rock and other, more mainstream Chistian music. Of the two, I have felt far more emotion in the rock with just as much devotion. Some of the songs have even made me felt like I was going to cry because of the heavy expression of love. I have never gotten that feeling from the more mainstream Christian music.
So no, I do not believe all rock music is sinful. And if such was the case, I would be going to Hell.

QFT.
I love rock music, especially classic rock.
The "sinful" qualities of a specific group of songs doesn't make the entire genre "satan music", as it has been stereotyped. Certain songs, yes, are about sinful things. However, many of them (and not just the low quality ones), are not.
Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Bad Company, the Who, Queen, Rush, etc. are all great bands, and I in no way consider myself sinning while I enjoy their music.

It all depends on the individual. If you can't listen to AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long", and not think lustful thoughts, don't listen to it. I can make it through that song without thinking about anything but the music itself, so I do.

I agree. It can depend on the individual. I love the band Slipknot but they have some songs that i will not listen to.

No the music itself isn't sinful

How can it be sinful JUST because it's heavier than other genres? There are LOADS of christian rock and metal artists as well as christians in rock and metal bands, it's not the music that it the problem. It will be what the band stands for or their lyrics, If they contradict what God has said than it is sinful or if they are satanists then yes they are. But if they are prasing the lord through their music and helping other to turn to christ then how can it be sinful? It's our mission to turn people to christ and get as many people saved as possible and if rock music can do that, then it can't possible be evil, it's just heavier than tradional stuff but it doesn't mean it's evil

I don't believe it is. I was on another forum where there was a girl who only listened to Classical music because she believed it was the only music that wasn't sinful. I thought that was weird. Anyway, I think it all depends on the intent of the artist. BarlowGirl is one of my favorite bands and they're classified as rock. I don't see how anyone could listen to their music and think it's sinful.
