Is the Day of Pentecost a continuing event? Some seem to think it is still happening today like it did a couple thousand years ago.

Well I think the spreading of God's word is still going on (obviously) but perhaps not in the intensity as in the day of Pentecost. And all that speaking in tounges/foreign languages that the apostles were doing - it is questionable whether it is happening today or not. I'm not sure.

But I think this part of Acts does explain a lot, and supports what I am saying:

Acts 2:17-21 said:
17" 'In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19I will show wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.'[c]

1Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
1Co 13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
1Co 13:10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

This portion of scripture explains a lot. It means that while we are still here on earth, tongues will continue. When perfection comes is when we are glorified in heaven, then tongues will cease because they will no longer be needed, for we will all speak one language in heaven.
