Is You Call That-Art dead?
ART? dead at age 12....
Saturday March 5th, 2005 - 12:00am
You Call That ART? died peacefully in its sleep last week surrounded by family and friends.
Born in 1993, You Call That ART? had a happy early childhood as a church youth group band. In its teen years the band evolved into a progressive instrumental act and traveling art show best known for the local hit “chicken on the run.†The band even played overseas in England in 1995 and Europe in 1998. Eventually You Call That ART? added a lead singer to become a full-fledged rock band. After a rocky start at a National band competition in Estes Park, Colorado, the band solidified its lineup and began to tackle the local music scene. You Call That ART? enjoyed a successful run in the Rocky Mountain region from Casper, Wyoming to Colorado Springs. In its prime, the band performed hundreds of concerts (dubbed “live show rumblesâ€Â) and sold two thousand of its debut recording “01.01.01†which included songs “boomerang,†“speak†and “can’t much matter.â€Â
Later, in its twilight years, You Call That ART? built a strong relationship with manager Jeff Krump and producer Jason Hickman who graciously helped the band ease into its retirement phase.
Countless friends, fans and supporters grieve the loss of Colorado’s only “hard.pop.funk.rock†band. Many wonderful people have invested time, energy and money into the You Call That ART? project for which its family members are forever grateful.
The band is survived by founder John Furste and frontman Sven Severin. Former Simon Lee, Matt Lightner, Ben Winters (and other drummers too numerous to mention) continue on in other musical ventures. Furste says, “It’s a sad day to be sure. It’s tough to say goodbye to an old friend -- but I try to remember that every ending is really just a beginning…â€Â
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw them open for Quiot Riot. Sad if they are dead. Get some MP3 before the site disapears if they are dead.
I was looking forward to the new material but based on the above posted on their website it looks like they are now down 2 members.
Dead or a new beginning? Will a new band rise from the ashes?
