Infants do not detect race so far as we can tell. They don't like beards, probably because it partially covers faces. And they are wired to detect faces at birth.

Racism is just a particular kind of xenophobia, which is wired in. Xenophobia, in pre-industrial societies, had an adaptive value, since strangers were likely to have microbes to which a particular population might be vulnerable. It's no small thing; native populations in the Americas often fell due to the introduction of Old World pathogens rather than by actual military conquest.

But kids don't become racist by themselves. They have to be taught prejudice based on external appearances.

That's a long long way from the opening statement, which misrepesents what the district taught. Shame on AIG.
