He made no mention of the Council of Carthage which brought us the Old and New Testament canons. Many of his early English translators had bad translations of the Bible.

really, links to further reading?

Most of the controversy involved the Old Testament, the New Testament being very much in agreement within Christendom insofar as what books are included, also determined by the several church synods mentioned in the link I give below:

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son,
Our Lord;
who was conceived by the holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died,
and was buried.

He descended into hell;
the third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
sitteth at the right hand of God,
the Father almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.

written by a Bible dealer who's life's work is maintaining the accurate translation, and an understand of the actual history, of the Bible

I've actually met the man. His name is Craig Lampe and he was curator of the traveling museum display "The Dead Sea Scrolls to America" (formerly "The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Forbidden Book" - named after Craig Lampe's book on the history of the Bible (the Forbidden Book)). Dr. Noah is asociated with him and may recieve credit for it for funding purposes but Craig Lampe is the one who started the collection of ancient Bibles. They actually have one of the Bibles that William Tyndale used to own (because it has his signature in it) on display! That's a 500 year Old Bible!

God used that situation where I met Craig to give me his book for only the cash I had in my pocket ($7- when it had a table value of $80!), and in the back of it (I only found out later - I never knew why it was so expensive) it had two Bible leaves in it - one from an Original 1650 reprint of the KJV and and even earlier dated Geneva Bible page (the Bible the Pilgrims brought to America). It is facinating to look at indeed. I dare not take them out of their lamination sheets. I commend Dr. Lampe's mission and cause and his brother (who was co-curator and who escorted me to the cashier desk while telling me to pay from just my pocket upon Craig's request) told me (since I was virtually speechless) that it wasn't about the money but about God and revealing the history of the Bible. It was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life and I learned so much from the display, and on top of that the almost free book that Dr. Lampe gave me - Once I walked out side to my car to leave the exhibit I literally broke down crying because I was so overwhelmed by what I had just experienced. God designed that day Sovereignly to open my eyes and I thank him eternally for it. Thus I cannot say anything amiss against Dr. Lampe and his exhibit for I know God was using him to reveal the truth to people and to bless people from the sincerest of motives and God's blessing on the exhibit.

Just thought I'd say that because every time I run into talk about greatsite.com or any other thing related to Dr. Lampe or the exhibit that's the first thing that comes to mind. :)

God Bless,

Many of his early English translators had bad translations of the Bible.

The real point is though that it is a miracle and an act of sainthood that there even were translations of the Bible in English (they were forbidden - and the majority of the translators were martyred because of it) and for the manuscripts they had at the time their translations were superb. William Tyndale's NT Translation was an expert translation from Greek and the KJV borrows near 90% of Tyndale's words from his translation. We should respect the work these people did, because without them we would have no English translation - and possibly not even the Protestant Reformation. And whether or not the KJV or other translations may not be perfect they are in no way horrible translations. I still read the KJV for its mastery of the English language and it is often more literal than some translations. For their day it was a miracle and a prize of scholarship which has survived centuries and brought many to faith in Jesus. I cannot slander such translations, but rather I am glad they were even made.
