In the modern era in which we live, we are surrounded by technological marvels that would have
seemed impossible a few hundred years ago. Just a century ago, men walking on the moon; a box
in your house that could show events happening on the other side of the world; traveling
around the world in just a matter of hours, or chatting with someone who lives on another
continent, would have seemed nothing short of sorcery. Yet, as Solomon observed, there really
is nothing new uder the sun. (Eccles. 1:9-10)
Look around. Every object ever made by man, was formed from materials found either on
the earth or under it. Whether wood, iron, plastic, paper or chemical, everything that
man makes comes from something God made. Your house, car, clothes, watch,
money...everything was made out of something that was here long before man was created.
Let's take that one step further: All the materials that make up a nuclear warhead, and the
rocket that delivers it, also come from the earth, and have been here all along. They
were there 5000 years ago, when Nimrod used construction of the ill-fated tower of Babel to
rally the people around a common cause--a misguided unity tainted by rebellion against God.
Knowing where this would lead, God stopped the project cold by dividing the single language
shared by the people into many languages. They abandoned the project because they could no
longer communicate, making cooperation impossible. Gradually, they migrated outward, grouping
together according to their respective languages, and settled in the lands that eventually
would be named for the various tribal leaders.
But, let's suppose that God had not intervened. How long would it have been before
man's unity facilitated the development of modern technology? How long before they--like man
today--began to focus on what they could do, irregardless of whether they should?
Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937),is considered the father of nuclear physics. Building on earlier
theories about the structure of the atom, he hypothesized a workable model and in 1908, the
first splitting of an atom, in his "gold foil experiment" would become the key that unlocked
the door to nuclear fusion. Some 50 years later--largely in part because of Einstein's ideas
and the collaboration of a diverse array of scientists, the intellectual brilliance of man
betrayed a savagery inherent in his fallen human nature, when it unleashed upon the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the original Weapon of mass destruction
What made this and all other modern technology possible? Simply put, we are where we are
technologically, because scientists from many nations were able to pool their knowledge--to
blend discoveries, concepts and theories into the soup of modern science. Technology has been
built, layer upon layer, over the course of several generations, by the nations united as one--
possible only because they can understand one another's language.
So then, the raw materials that make the tools of destruction used on the battlefield today,
were here when men still used swords and battleaxes; they simply lacked the knowledge to mine
and manipulate those materials. And as we've seen, technology can snowball dramatically when
not stayed by the hand of God. And given thousands of years...
Is it any wonder the Lord removed man's ability to abuse his unity at Babel--before he reached
the point where he could achieve anything his depraved mind could conceive?
Yet here we are, having traveled full circle. The earth is once again filled with violence and corruption. Once again, we see the nations of the world uniting into an alliance diametrically opposed to the will of God. Soon, as with Nimrod, a secular humanist of great charisma will rise to prominence and sit upon the throne of satan--deceiving the world, and leading the godless down the path of destruction.
And this time, God will allow it to happen...because it will be the right time. Nothing will
ever happen until God is ready for it to happen. And Only one thing is holding things up:
(Matt 24:14)And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness
unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Thank God for His undeserved, infinite love and mercy!
God bless,
