A friend just gave me a copy of "Jesus Manifesto" by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola. This is the second copy Russ has given me and I am going to read it this time. I wanted to started a thread where I could write down all of the cool quotes, and the crazy things going through my head as I read. I have only read a chapter or two so far and there are already so many good quotes.
"So what is Christianity? It is Christ. Nothing more. Nothing less. Christianity is not an ideology or a philosophy. Neither is it a new type of morality, social ethic or worldview. Christianity is the "good news" that beauty, truth, and goodness are found in a person. And true humanity and community are founded on and experienced by connection to that person."
"God is not so much about fixing things that have gone wrong in our lives as He is about finding us in our brokenness and give us Christ."
"The book of Genesis further demonstrates the Scriptures' preoccupation with Christ. Chapters 1 and 2 wer never intended to be the battleground for the Creation-Versus-evolution debate. They are rather an unveiling of Christ and His church. Jesus is the new Adam. The church is the new Eve. And the gospel of John is the new Genesis."
"In short, the New Testament writers were completely consumed with Christ. He was their message, their teaching, their proclamation, their very life. And everything else flowed out of intimate fellowship with Him."
