Jesus' Prayer Fulfilled

D

Dan Edwin

Guest
Neither pray I for these alone, but also for them which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as You, Father, are in me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us: that the world may believe that You have sent me. And the glory which You have given me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and You in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that You have sent me, and have loved them, as You have loved me (John 17:2-23).

He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that does not believe God has made Him a liar; because he does not believe the record that God gave of His Son. And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:10-13).

He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me (God) (Matt 10:40). Because the Father and the Son are one, whoever receives the Son receives God the Father also.

GOD IS IN US AND WE ARE IN GOD

He who has seen Me has seen the Father. (John 14:9a)
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me? (John 14:10a)
From this we have, (1) Jesus is in the Father (God); and (2) The Father (God) is in Me (Jesus).

Whoever confesses Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God (1 John 4:15). From this we have, (3) God (the Father) dwells in us; (4) and we dwell in God (the Father).

(1) Jesus is in the Father (God), (4) and we dwell in God (the Father).
Jesus said, I am in God; just as those who confess Jesus is the Son of God are in God also.

(2) The Father (God-Holy Spirit) is in Jesus, and (3) God (the Father-Holy Spirit) dwells in us.
Jesus said, God is in me; just as God dwells in us (those who confess Jesus is the Son of God).

Jesus said, I am in God and God is in me, just as we are in God and God is in us.

WE ARE ONE

For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12). Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. (Ephesians 4:25)

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28). Nor is there Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox, for we are all members one of another, with Christ as the life in and through us (Galatians 2:20).

But knowing their thoughts, He said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. And a house divided against a house falls (Luke 11:17). But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another (Galatians 5:15). For God is one, and there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).

Take care, and God bless,...........with love in Christ

Often people believe that we are to be organizational or denominational unity because of this prayer, but Jesus prayed to the Father, and it is up to God to answer prayer not us. We get a glimpse of how this prayer was to be answered in the gospel of John:

John 7:38-39
38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
NKJV

When the Holy Spirit was given to indwell all believers, all who are saved are united through the Holy Spirit. That is how I believe that God answered the prayer.

Does that mean that we all agree on non-essentials? No, and I doubt that we will until we see Him in heaven because our understanding is not perfect.

Does this mean that we should have organizational unity? No, because churches are a mix of saved and unsaved, and so there will be divisions. paul tells us that in his letter to the church at Corinth.

1 Cor 11:18-19
18 For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you.
NKJV

What I do believe that this does is help keep us focused on Jesus and The word of God (Bible) through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We become united with all other believers because we shared this same indwelling Spirit.
