JESUS Said “Not One Jot Or Tittle” = Matthew 5;16-20

JESUS Said “Not One Jot Or Tittle” = Matthew 5;16-20

*Definition of Jot:

A brief note or to write a short note.

*Definition of Tittle:
A tiny amount or a small written stroke, dot or point.

Matthew 5;16-20
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 16:15-17
And He said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. The Law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the Law to fail.

Matthew 7:12
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the Law and the prophets.

Luke 24:40-47
And when He had thus spoken, He shewed them His hands and His feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And He took it, and did eat before them. And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

John 15:22-25
If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their Law, They hated me without a cause.

Notice that in Matthew 5:17-20, those who break the least of the commandments and teach men so shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven...

And therefore they shall be found therein.

I think that I should point out that even those who are sticklers for the law will find themselves unable to keep it.

Gal 3:10, For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Jas 2:10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Mat 5:48, Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Gal 6:13, For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

It should be clear from holy scripture that no one can keep the law.

Rom 2:13, (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Rom 3:20, Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Here, in one verse, we find that we might be justified through our keeping of the law. But in the second, we find that no one will be justified through the keeping of the law.

A contradiction?

No; for in context, by the law is the knowledge of sin; and "There is no one righteous, no, not one."

I find, in reconciliation of these scriptures, that we cannot keep the law; because if we could keep it, we would be justified by it; but scripture is clear that no one will be justified in the keeping of the law.

Therefore it is impossible to do the least of these commandments and to teach men so; and therefore all will be called least in the kingdom of heaven.

Because the law requires that you wear tzitzit and tallit...blue threads on your garments to remind you to keep all of the law in every tenet.

I would say to you that if you cannot and do not do that, you are not keeping the least of these commandments; and therefore your claim to greatness is forfeit.

I consider Paul the apostle to be the greatest in the kingdom. Yet this is what he ascertained about his own status:

Eph 3:8, Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

Paul was indeed less than the least of all the saints; because he was called to the Gentiles; and in that he had to become like Gentiles:

1Co 9:21, To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

He was under the law to Christ which means that he lived by the love that the Lord had placed in his heart; however in his ministry to the Gentiles he acted as one who was free from Jewish laws and regulations.

Gal 4:12 (nlt), Dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to live as I do in freedom from these things, for I have become like you Gentiles—free from those laws. You did not mistreat me when I first preached to you.

Therefore, by what do we measure greatness in the kingdom?

It is a topsy-turvy kingdom.

I would say that if you win more souls to Christ, you are greater in the kingdom than if you win less souls to Christ.

Therefore, if, in abandoning the law, I can win more souls, I will be called greater in the kingdom than if I failed to win certain souls because I was a stickler for the law.

Now I myself do often preach the law of God as a schoolmaster to lead men to Christ. By the law is the knowledge of sin. Therefore in obeying and preaching the law, I will convict more sinners by the power of the Spirit and will lead more men to Christ.

However, if, in preaching the law, I would cause men to forget about faith in Jesus; and also cause them to seek to be saved through the incapable alternative set forth in scripture...keeping the law...then they would not be saved at all; but,

Rom 10:3, For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Rom 10:4, For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
