John the Baptist - #1 Enemy of the Temple!

People often believe that John the Baptist was a docile man performing a harmless ceremony of baptism. But in reality he was the number one #1 enemy of the temple priests and religious leaders.

Consider that John the Baptist was clothed in a garment of camel hair and ate locust and wild honey. Here you have a person, John the Baptist, wearing a garment of camel's hair, which is a forbidden animal, eating locusts which is a forbidden food, and also eating honey which is a food that exemplifies God’s favor and blessing. (Locusts and wild honey are symbolic of our own knowledge of good and evil that we all have because of the sin in the Garden of Eden! Honey - Good ; Locusts - Evil)

While all the temple priests were practicing the sacrifice of a lamb for the forgiveness of sins they were also showing everyone how sinless they were in their devotion to Mosaic law and the subsequent ritualistic practices.

Then the heretic John the Baptist came along doing the exact opposite in the wilderness!

The temple priests must have been incensed that John the Baptist was baptizing people as an act of purification, and as an admission of one’s sin, while clothed with a forbidden animal, eating a forbidden insect, and also eating a food of holiness.

Imagine the anger of the temple priests who thought John the Baptist’s “antics” in the wilderness were making a mockery of the temple priest’s sacrificial ceremonies all the while watching throngs of people lining up in the desert to be baptized by John!

There was zero chance that anyone connected with the Temple would have been seen being baptized by John the Baptist. But then Jesus Christ showed up and wanted to be baptized by John the Baptist! The religious leaders knew right then and there that Jesus Christ was also their #1 enemy of the Temple for approving of John the Baptist’s ceremony that seemingly made a mockery of the Temple priest’s own self-righteousness.

Final result - the priests of the temple wanted John the Baptist and Jesus Christ - ‘removed’!

Baptism is a sign of our admission of our sin and the need of a redeemer to bring us back into a Holy relationship with God. That redeemer is God’s son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for all of man’s sin. To ensure your redemption from all sin then just believe in Jesus Christ - God become man!

That’s it! .... (then get baptized to seal the deal!)

God Bless

Thank you good friend. That is an amazing thread you have started. :thumbsup

ugmug , you have written the truth in terms that everyone can understand. Concise, straight to the point.... excellent!

Thank you!

And Jesus said this about John

Matthew 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Ugmug, I never thought of how he must have appeared to others, never mind the temple priests and Pharisees. Wow.

I support John as he begins the support of a new different understanding.

Luke 16:16
The kingdom begins being taught

The new temple understanding
I Corinthians 3:16

Getting the right things / person in the temple
Revelation 3:20

There is no temple in the New Jerusalem (?)
Revelation 21:22

Now if I / we totally saw this more clearly than through a glass darkly.

What of Jesus' baptism?
Let me really mess it all up. LOL
John's Baptism
Turn fathers to sons (those that once ate each other)
Repentance of sins (without the law there is no knowledge of sin Romans 4:15 and other scriptures).
Believe in the one who comes after me (there is more to come)

Jesus's Baptism
Remission of sins
Intercessor on right hand of Father
Involved in sending Holy Spirit John 16:7 (coming after my departure)

Holy Spirit Baptism
Power to witness
Prayers offered that we do not know how to pray Romans 8:26
Spirituals

The baptism of John allows teaching about Jesus. The baptism of Jesus allows disciples (but still there is a need for Holy Spirit.

It appears we need all three baptisms ( I know one faith one baptism). Baptism into God (Father , Son and Holy Spirit).

I became aware of sins years before I really believed in Jesus.
I muddled around trying to witness without Holy Spirit
Ezekiel 2:1-2 we are spoken to before we are set on our feet by Ruac.

John was showing that the temple arrangement was obsolete because it did not produce the kind of people father wanted. The finality of the temple was when it was destroyed in 70 ad
