Judas Did The Unthinkable – As Will Many Other People
When Judas was about to betray Jesus he did the unthinkable – he didn't ask God (hint: in the person of Jesus Christ) for mercy. All throughout the bible many people are caught doing evil, and many people admit to their evil, but only David admitted to his sin with Bathsheba and then sought mercy from God.
Jesus is called the son of David simply because Jesus, like David, asked God the Father for mercy for all of those who crucified him. When we look at Adam and Eve they both admitted to their sin but never asked God for mercy. When Cain murdered Abel he never asked God for mercy (hint: he did plead to have his curse by God lessened but never sought forgiveness). Even Satan will one day admit that Jesus is God but will never ask God for mercy (hint: he will never admit to any wrongdoing).
People in the Old Testament used animal sacrifice as a way to admit to their own sin while never seeking mercy from God since they believed that their animal sacrifice was sufficient to restored them back to holiness (hint: this continues today as religious rituals). An animal can't talk therefore an animal can never ask God to extend mercy for all those who participated in its sacrifice.
The difference between the Old Testament and New Testament is that while many people in the Old Testament admit to their sin (hint: the Mosaic Law – 10 Commandments) they never asked God for mercy. Jesus Christ came to this world to be our redeemer and to plead to God the Father for mercy for all those who believe in him, as he did on the cross.
It is no small matter that Jesus came from the line of David since David not only admitted to his sin but pleaded to God for mercy. That plea for mercy extended down through the line of David until it was ultimately fulfilled by God's own son Jesus Christ!
Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is called the son of David, and you'll receive not only forgiveness for your sin but mercy from God leading to life eternal with God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit in heaven forever. (hint: get baptized)
God Bless
