Judas

John 13:27, As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered Judas."

My question is; if Judas decided to betray Jesus of his own free will, then why did Satan have to enter him? :o What did Satan have to do with anything? Just a conincidence perhaps? ;-)

Man, the NIV leaves out the real meat and potatos of this verse.

John 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

My guess is up until the moment Judas took the bread, he had a chance to change his mind and change his heart as to his betrayal of Jesus. Once he took the bread his fate was sealed. Hence Jesus' comment.

Sorry but guesses aren't in the bible. They're from the human mind. So I'll stick to the bible instead of adding to scripture. ;-) So once again, do you think Satan has any power over human beings? :o Or do you disagree with 2 Corinthians 4:4 and instead, believe that the god of this age has not blinded people? So which is it?

First - speaking for myself, I have never argued for a 'free' will. I believer that humanity has a will, but it is not 'free'. Also, I have argued that humanity has a responsibilty when the Holy Spirit convicts them. At no time prior to the conviction of the Holy Spirit can humanity choose God.

Second - at what point in time did Judas agree to betray Jesus? Hint: Matthew 26:14-16

Satan can only "enter" those that are not saved. Once saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit - Satan's minions can only oppress, not possess.

Once we receive the Spirit, we can do no else but follow it as Romans 8:9 tells us. We will still be in varying degress of spiritual maturity and God delivers us of specific sins when he knows we can understand and handle it. He does not do this all at once but only according to what each of us can bear. So as the bible tells us, we are being made holy until we die and go to heaven. Only then will we be free of a sinful nature and sin around us. Until then as paul tells us, we will still struggle with our sinful nature. But we can be rest assued that "he who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ." So as Jesus tells us in John 14:10, "it is the Father living in me that is doing the work." :)

Heidi - I thought we were talking about Judas?

Romans 8:9 says: "you, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ."

IF - implies CHOICE - you also must put it in the context of WHO Paul is writting to and addressing in this Passage. He is referring to those who are already IN CHRIST. Those that have chosen Christ and have received the Spirit of Christ.

And how can man choose who was chosen before the creation of the world? :o I cannot dictate to God to whom he sends the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not mine to dispense. Only God decides to whom he will send the Spirit as Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:27. So sorry, Alone, but election is God's choice, not man's.

(quote)Those that have chosen Christ and have received the Spirit of Christ.[/quote]

Again, you are in error. Jesus said; "You did not choose me, I chose you." So I'm not going to argue with people who argue with Christ's words. It's a waste of time.

aLoneVoice, if I might ask two questions about your post. Oddly enough it does not relate to the content of what you are saying. Maybe it is the administration that I should address the first question to.

I clicked on the Romans 8:9 reference you quoted and it took me to BibleGateway.com and the KJV which reads...
9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his
As we refer to verses, is something set to make reference to the KJV at this URL?

Second question is what translation were you using? It seems to be translating the word σαρκι to be---"controled by the sinful nature." I am not arguing with the translation, but it would be an expanded translation, and very interpretive. Yet in light of Romans 8:7-8 it would fit the context.

I use the NASB.

When you click on a verse it takes you to Biblegateway.com. At that website you can set your perference for the translation you want.
