1 Corinthians 5:11-13 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
We know that members of the church are to judge (put away, not even eat, with an unrepentant sinner within the church.
But what about those without?
What is Paul saying?
He is saying that he has no jurisdiction or sway over people outside the church. He is not saying that we cannot call sin a sin.
We can't put a person that is a pornographer out of the church if he or she isn't called brother or sister in Christ. He isn't in the church in the first place.
We can witness to them and call them to repentance and a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
We know that murder is wrong. If Paul meant we could not judge sin as sin outside the church then we can't call a murderer wicked.
But some may say "Paul states that it is God that will judge them".
That is correct. God has jurisdiction and authority over all souls even those who reject and sin against Him.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
We can reject hereticks and the wicked in the church.
Titus 3:10-11 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
There is a vast misconception due to poor teaching and "political correctness" that since all men sin then we cannot "put away" or reject anyone.
This isn't the case.
If that were true then unrepentant pedophiles could be Pastors or teach Sunday school! :o
Lousy doctrine and half truths has led many churches and individuals down a very dangerous path of darkness and acceptance of doctrines and people that should be "put away from the church" not welcomed into it.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
