Just Have Faith!

When someone says, "Just have faith!", How do you receive that?

Not so much what they mean by it, but moreso, what do YOU (the hearer) make of it?

Be blessed! Stay blessed!

When someone say's "Just have faith" to me it is usually in response to a certain situation I am dealing with at the time. I guess what I hear is two things, "Be Patient" and "trust God".

What I make of it is that the person is telling me just to believe hard enough. To me it sounds like a mental assertion when there is not a specific word of God given for the faith.

Now that is how I define it when dealing with God. But in dealing with people in general it is used a lot. Then what I make of it is that the person is telling me that if I believe hard enough, it might happen. There is usually not really any real "assurance" involved.

Take your troubles to the foot of the cross and put your trust in Him. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." NKJ

If the statement is directed towards someone with no religion, it can be a non-sensical statement. "Faith" is believing in something outside of relevant information. With that in mind, a person, such as myself, cannot just "believe something". Without relevant evidence, "just have faith" can even be absurd. For example, . . . if someone says that they have had contacts with faeries, and you refuse to believe their claims, . . . yet if they say, "just have faith", can that be of any use to you? Remember, this person firmly believes that they have had contact with faeries and the faery realm.

That's the problem when a christian says to "an atheist", "an agnostic", or those of similar ways of thinking, to "just have faith".

You can not "just have faith", God is the only one who can give you faith, He grows it, too. Read the mustard seed parable.

Nothing, of course

what do YOU (the hearer) make of it?

Nothing.

It's normally just another "Religious buzz-word" used by folks who have no idea what to say, and think they need to say something "spiritual". Like: "in Jesus Name" which only means: "I'm done pray'in". Or "Brother" which only means: "I don't remember your name".

95% of what the church CALLS "Faith" isn't, and is nothing more than "intellectual ascent", or "Hope".

They are implying 3 things

  1. My faith isn't strong enough
  2. If I just had enough faith, my problems would go away
  3. The problem is my own fault, for not having enough faith

Rockie, I've read that parable many many times.

Bob, . . . I thought this was funny: "Or 'Brother' which only means: 'I don't remember your name'." Yes indeed. :salute

honestly depends on who is saying it and how they mean it.. alot of times I think people don't know what else to say so it's kinda like a default answer. Other times it can mean that we need to remimber that we have to give things over to God and have faith in him to take care of things.

Be blessed! Stay blessed!

It depends on the situation. We mustn’t take the Lord for granted, or test him.. At the same time, we must trust him.
