Just Purchased The Word on Fire Bible: The Gospels Leather Bound

I may be an Episcopalian, but I grew up Catholic and will still read a Catholic Bible. When this was released I had wanted to purchase it, but never did. I went ahead and purchased it today though. This will be a nice addition to my Bible library!

Here is the link in case anyone hasn't seen this Bible yet:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1943243530?psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp

To make people aware, this is on the gospels, the rest of the NT will be out next year, and other volumes will follow for the OT in the coming years.

Is this a translation of the Gospels? Or, is it a paraphrase of sorts?

Is the Roman church supporting this? If so, it would be the Old Testament that would present problems to me.

It is the NRSV Catholic Edition translation.

I believe the RC is indeed supporting it. When I receive it tomorrow I will see if it has the seal from the holy see.

It then includes the Apocrypha in the Old Testament, which I, and Protestants, reject as Scripture.

Just got it and it's beautiful! Lots of old artwork and some commentary from early church fathers as well.
How does it differ translation wise? (I try not choosing a bible by how pretty it looks, nor a church by all it's smells and bells)

Well, it's the NRSV Catholic Edition. I'm not sure how different it is.

I bought it not just for looks, as I have a small collection of Bibles, but also for the commentary.

The rest of your comment I will choose to ignore.

I thought there already was a Catholic edition of the NRSV.

Indeed. I have several bibles with commentary for the same reason; including the NAB revised edition. I may consider this volume once it is completed.

If the OP is interested in that sort of thing, may I also suggest the Artscroll Chumash. It is the OT scriptures with commentary from 2000 years of Jewish sages.

There is, but I think this is just a new format for a lack of a better word around the same text.

I'll take a look into it. Thank you!
