Quath,

Did you hear that Madonna named herself after the biblical character Ruth? Or am I out to lunch on that one?

Oh, a very reliable source just told me it's ESTHER, not Ruth. lol

D'OH!

Esther, Ruth, what's the difference, really? I knew it was a woman anyway, at least I got that right.

Thanks Vic. :D

It sounds like a joke. I looked it up and it says the name change was because the FCC rukes "the word "Madonna" had implicit sexual meaning thanks to the star's long career of nudity, swearing and nudity."

If that is the case I wonder how long till the FCC makes Esther a dirty word.

Madonna is her real name, the one she was "christened" with. Being devout Catholics her parents named her after the "Madonna".

MARY f
Usage: English, Biblical
Pronounced: MER-ee
Usual English form of Maria, which was the Latin form of the New Testament Greek names Mariam or Maria (the spellings are interchangeable), which were from the Hebrew name Miriam. The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love". This is the name of several New Testament characters, most importantly Mary the virgin mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene. Two queens of England have had this name, as well as a Queen of Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots.
