It seems to me that sometimes Christians are wont to take simple, obvious things and turn them into complicated, difficult things. What do you think?

The Trinity and Oneness are excellent examples.
Yes, we debate and debate and debate and nobody changes their mind, do they?

How often do you see a debate where one side copitulates to the others arguments?

Debates are for the observers, not the debaters.

You are right. Too many people try to win the arguments instead of just presenting. They just cannot agree to disagree and go into bickering stage. It is so chidish.

The point of the debate is to get people to change their minds, isn’t it, unless you are on a debate team?

i have had a person on fb that used to be on this site, message me on these questions and would respect my answers.

she wasnt a pentacostal like i am, even though i didnt change her she did have respect for my position. she also knows the regulars. that is how she recongnzed me. my old avatar that is.

Most posters are expressing their convictions. It is not conviction if they are seeking to be converted to others.

It is just fight and nasty arguments if we push our convictions to others. What we should do is to present our beliefs instead of pushing it.

and when was the last time you engaged or observed a debate where that happened to one of the parties debating?
Sometimes it is not a debate but a discussion, and people actually acknowledge that someone has made a good point.

i have respect for you. even though islam befuddles me with the moderate and radicals. :crazy
as a vet, i have trust issues with islam, but i know that not all muslims hate america.

its stupid not to concede when a person know more on a subject then you do. why not acknowledge the better argument and move on? better example for christ.

Pushing it might do more harm than good, I agree.
