Keeping faith is harder than rocket science to me

By whatever means I try, I end up getting frustrated and cursing god. I'm beginning to think i'm hopeless.

Hello, Steven.

Let me ask you a few simple questions.

When you read scripture, what happens? Do you:
A. Get bored, and then your mind drifts, or
B. Understand what you read and get something, but never much that you find applicable to your life, or
C. Don't read scripture much at all to start with.

Seeing that faith cometh only by hearing (hearing as in submitting to and relying upon) the Word of God, therefore if we lack faith; then we must needs more abundantly hear the Word of God, again, seeing that faith only comes by hearing the Word of God.

I know exactly what you mean. It's really hard. Hopefully some day we can figure it out. If not, then at least we can say we tried. Hopefully Jesus will hair l have pity on us. Those that just couldn't get it right. I thibking he will. He seemed like a very understanding person when he was here. It's a shame he isn't here still. Could really usr his advice.

Yes you are completely hopeless, so am I, so is everyone and that is why we place our hope in Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Heb 12:2)
When you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ He began a work in you which is His work and He will continue that work until the day you die and go to be with Him
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
(Php 1:6)
He knows full well the difficulties you face because He made you. His plan for you is unstoppable. He is teaching you faith and patience which is a bit of a jump start for every believer, but through it you will learn to trust Him and wait for His timing.
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
(Heb 6:12)

Sorry for not responding timely, i've been really really sick. Anyhow, i'd say don't read much at all to start with. They all seem to me stories and subjects that don't really point anywhere other than to god in my opinion. Maybe i'm just not reading the right stuff, idk. I try and at least get the daily verse from biblegateway.

This seems like a cool thing to believe, but i'm more buying into random chaos and genetics from parents rather than a creator who knew me from before birth. There is just too many people on this planet for god to know each individual one. Either way, it's really hard to believe in a plan when everyday for years and years i've been wishing for death. I just don't see the kindness or compassion in that, despite the fact i've never hurt anyone.

I think a lot of this stems from me simply not being able to be who I want to be. Every goal I set to better myself is declined in the name of my mental illness. It's very frustrating. I think well, let me try worship music. Then I think what is there to praise? <Insert list of negative addictions and behaviors>

Sorry for the negativity dump, I will be taking a break from the forums until I can get some sort of revolation, I hate to be a downer, not what I was expecting when I decided to try and renew my faith :P

I think you hit the nail on the head. We are our own worst enemy.

This is likely your biggest problem right here then. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, which means that Faith will indeed feel like rocket science to you until you actually give yourself to the study of it and not just read a verse here or there. You see, scripture does actually point to God continually. He uses His word to draw humanity unto Himself, as the answer to all their problems if they will turn to Him. But until you know Him you will not know how to obey Him, or why, and so you will continue to abide in a state of disobedience and faithlessness.

Hope you feel better soon, and thanks for the reply.

I was actually thinking about posting this question, basically saying that I think I am praying wrong and ask how to do it. Where might a good place to start be? Is there scripture you can share on serving others? This is where my mind is at tonight.

I say you create a thread asking all these questions in this forum right here below. You could post it in Questions and Answers, only the amount of interaction people could give you in that forum would be too restricted, IMO.

Create a thread and ask these things in it. You can tag us here with it if you like so we know to respond.

God bless,
- H

Hey Steven
You've gotten some good advice, I don't think I can add much.
I do want to say that some come to God thinking He's a wish fulfuller.
You know, a person decides to worship God and nothing happens and they don't understand why.

God is not really there to be used....He's there to guide us.
There are only two powers in this universe, one is evil and one is good.
We see this in books, movies, real life - these two powers are all around us.
Be on the side of the good power - let's call it God.
Do what God would want you to do - in the end you'll be better off.

There's no right way to pray.
Some find it difficult, some find it very easy.
The important thing is to communicate with God.
This can be done by just keeping Him in your thoughts,
thanking Him for what you do have - no matter how much or how little it is.

Walking with God is a life-time project.
We do our best,
Jesus does the rest.
God bless you.
