These KJV bible verses are missing in the NIV bible. Some sources say the KJV translators added them , while others say the NIV translators deleted them because they were not in early manuscripts.
I wonder which version is correct ..... Is KJV really the more reliable bible ?

Luke 23:17
(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

John 5:3b-4
… waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

Acts 8:37
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Acts 24:7
But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

Acts 28:29

My personal opinion is that the KJV is not the 'better' bible. This does not mean I do not refer to it, but I do not hold it up as the 'holy grail' as some do. In 2009, I think that we have a plethera of information available to us as never before as scholars have reexamined many texts and given us updates that were not available to the original transcribers.

I prefer the New Living Translation myself but I always cross examine against the, KJV, NASB, NIV, AMP,and Hebrew/English bibles to make sure the messages are consistent and if not, why.

Yes the King James is better then the NIV......I really dont like the fact the the NIV took out "Lucifer" from Isaiah 14.....along with other reasons......

Actually I've read ALL those verses in the NIV. Every single one. They're in different places but they're still there. Thus, we still always have the Words that God wanted us to know. :)

Ah, well, an easy test for you then: show us what verse in the NIV states "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

Matthew 28:19, John 14:20, and John 1:1-2 and John 1;14 all say the same thing. :)

But that isn't what this topic is about. This is about specific verses being removed or added, not concepts.

And my point is that the verses that are omitted in one translation are included in another part of another translation. So again, God is still revealing everything he wants us to know in all the translations. And that is what's important. :yes So we can know that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all one from ALL the translations. ;)

Matth 28:19 says to baptize in the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
John 14:20 - Christ tells us He is in the Father, we are in Him and He is in us.
John 1:1-3 - We learn that the Word (Christ) existed with God and was God (In Hebrews 1:8-9, the Father calls His Son, God) and God created everything thru the Word (Christ).
John 1:14 says the Word (Christ) became human and we see His glory as He is the Father's one and only Son.

It would seem that these verses don't say what is impled in the Kjv of 1 John 5: 7-9. Apparently, this version is not used in any other popular versions such as the , NLT, NIV, AMP, NASB. The phrase, "these three are one' is not found in any greek manuscript before the 16th century.

However, a better example of "one" would be John 17;

20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are oneâ€â€as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. 24 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!

Christ is in Father..the Father is in HIm. Christ is in us and prays that we are in Him and the Father so as to experience perfect unity. Christ prays we will all be one. Seems to verify what is in John 14, no matter which version you read.

Blessings,
Deirdre

John 1:1-2,1:14, 14:20 tells us that God is one with the Son and Holy Spirit as well. I knew that and I've never read the KJV thoroughly. I got it from the NIV. :) It's also a no-brainer since the Spirit of Satan doesn't come from God.

There are also many other verses that tell us that it is God who is living in us, it is Jesus who is living in us, it is the Holy Spirit who is living in us and it is the word that is living in us. So once we are born again of the Holy Spirit, we have all 4 living in us because they are all one. :)

John 1:1-2, 14 NIV
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. [quote:3tl8rgbm]

John 14:20 NIV
[quote:3tl8rgbm]20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
[/quote:3tl8rgbm][/quote:3tl8rgbm]

I understand what you are saying however the verses you quoted don't say it. In order to conclude that 4 people are living in us because they are one (entity?, being?, person? unified as in purpose?...not sure which you are referring) I would have to see it said in scriptures if I am to stay true to the word of God.

Blessings,
Deirdre

They have to be one if you believe John 1:1-2 because God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit and the word will never disagree with each other so they cannot be separated. They all have different functions but come from one Spirit. They are unified. Sothe point I'm trying to make is that one can absolutely know that they are all one from reading the NIV because there are verses all over scripture that unify them. :)

I do believe John 1: 1-2....help me to understand where these two verses that speak of the Word (Christ) being with the Father, the Word being also God and the Word becoming flesh have anything to do with the Holy Spririt. Is there another word in these two sentences that also mean Holy Spirit?

The Son does nothing without the permission of the Father and the Holy Spirit agrees and confirms what the Father says, so I definitely agree these three are unified and would never disagree with one another. :-)

The word comes from the Holy Spirit inside its authors. :) The Holy Spirit is what compelled the authors to write what God wanted them to say. God's seed and the word are one and the same.

Question...by word do you mean Christ comes from the Holy Spirit inside its authors? Or do you mean the words on the paper come from the HS inside the authors?

Heidi said:

I agree.

Heidi said:

If by seed you mean Christ, then I agree...the Word is Christ.

I do believe that the Father, His Son and the Holy spirit are of One mind, unified in purpose and thought and that they will never disagree or contradict one another. I was just trying to figure out why you felt that John 1:1-2 was speaking of the Holy Spirit specifically, since the HS was not mentioned. However, since the entire bible is the inspired word of God, then based on your example, one can include the HS in whichever scripture they choose.

I think I understand now...thanks!

Blessings,
Deirdre

First of all, one version cannot be compared to another to get any realistic understanding of whether something is wrong or missing. KJV and NIV side by side doesnt tell us anything. BOTH could be wrong.
Any translation has to be compared to the Greek / Hebrew manuscripts to know if something is missing or rendered incorrectly.

Personally I use as many bibles as I can get my hands on. One bible may be twisted...maybe two or even 5, but they all arent. I use probably 15+ translations and when the majority agree on a given rendering most likely it is the more accurate.

There is the nasty issue of underlying texts...the Majority Texts versus the Minority...that is a battle that will rage until the Lord returns. I personally have chosen to go with the Majority texts (not the Textus Receptus which comes from the Majority Texts but is not identical to them in every regard....ie the added Johannine Comma, etc).
I trust the Majority Texts (NT) because they were out there being used by the church, not hidden away in caves and dark places.
So any bible that is based on the Majority texts is the foundation I fall back on, though still being very wary of the rendering given in any particular version (some translators really like to push personal bias/agenda...Sovereign Grace Publishers, for one).

Actually, Free, that is the Johannine Comma that I just spoke of in my last post.
That particular item, oddly enough, is not supported by the very Majority Texts that the TR supposedly is derived from...its not in the NIV (which I dont use much at all) for a reason. It is highly likely that it doesnt belong but was a sidebar note that found its way into the texts.
I'd suggest some study in the matter, but I realize that most KJV proponents dont want to know the truth....so you decide for yourself :)
The Johannine Comma says nothing about the NIV, but it does show that the KJV is not actually as true to the GMT's as KJV proponents claim...

I never heard of the Johannine Comma, I had to google it and then check between the KJV and the NIV. Pretty interesting.
