Know It Alls

Some people are "know it alls".
These people dominate every conversation simply because they are "know it alls".
Sometimes there are things you have learned in life you know to be true from experience.
When these things come up in conversation, you share it with others.
But if that disagrees with what the "know it all" is saying, they just talk over you and keep talking.
Have you ever met a "know it all"?
What does the Bible say about "know it alls"?

I'm a bit like that. :sad
It's a lack of self confidence. Something inside of me wants to be loved by everyone, but also feels unworthy of love, so I try to appear as clever as possible hoping to earn people's admiration, respect and love throught that. It's kinda narcissistic (spelling?), but it's hard to overcome that behaviour.

Allen, when you come across the next know-it-all remember that he or she is probably suffering from a low self esteem and needs your prayers.

Claudya, you don't strike me that way at all.
You should take a better look at yourself.
You have always seemed very Christ-like.

When I re-read my posts, I get the nagging sense that I have not expressed myself as well as I would have liked. So I keep adding clarification posts. It may really look like I am simply obsessed with my own opinions. But I just have a horror of being negatively misunderstood. I apologize to anyone who has felt dismissed by me. I really didn't mean it like that. :sorry

I'm sure to be older than most on this forum and have had the displeasure to meet far too many "know it alls." I try to go by what my mother taught me decades ago: If you havean't anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. That works most of the time. As far as a Biblical reference, I would try the book of Proverbs, know it alls have to be in there somewhere!

It's also called Mastery technique directly translated from Norwegian. If you are talking about what I think you are. I like to argue, but also acknowledge that I don't know everything, don't know what I come across as.

If you are referring to "debate" then "knowitalls" that talk over you are using Mastery Technique, i.e placing arguments in your mouth then debunking it claiming victory, simply ignoring your point/argument and restating your own argument, taking sentences out of context making your argument inconsequential, refusal to acknowledge your data/statistics, using soundbytes of you to make you seem like a bad or stupid person etc in politics this is the general way to approach a debate. You don't debate in order to convince the other person, but the audience that is listening.

Hey Mountainshield, you seem to know it all on this subject. Your a lawyer, right? No? Yes you are, I just know it!

Sounds like an average online debate.

I resent know it alls. The quality of what you say is determined both by your intelligence and your wisdom. Know it alls very much lack in wisdom because one of the first signs of wisdom is you don't know it all. People without wisdom coming across as an authority to me causes resentment but that is a sin I struggle with.

I struggle with being biased in the favour of know-it-alls I happen to agree with. Practice, practice, practice. I need to try harder to be more self-aware.

I think our message is very simple, but humans in our flesh are notorious for complicating things...

1 Corinthians 2:1-5:
"And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God."

...and 1 Corinthians 1 (might as well read all of it - it's such a practical book...I love studying it.)

I very much look for wisdom in people as a gift from God. Not in something to place my faith but as a way to fill my hunger for wisdom. Jesus as a model perceived the thoughts and motivations of others and responding with the wisest words ever.

I've almost certainly come across like this before and I want to apologize for that. I question things because I don't know it all and whilst I accept I never will, doesn't stop me from trying lol

I like that :)

I worked with a 'know-it-all' when I worked in Land-o-Lakes'.

At Christmas time I used to sing "Know it aaaall, know it all, know it aaaall, know it all..." (Sung to the tune of 'Noel').
