Leadership

Atonement

Member
A topic that many don't think about or discuss to often. As a Believer in Christ we are ALL leaders, we all have the responsibility to share our testimony and be the light to this dark world. Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. He (Jesus) is the light unto our path and through His guidance we light the world.
What do we or should we look for in a Christian Leader? Interesting because many people look for different qualities in leadership. I will begin what I look for:

1) Loyalty - One should be loyal in his walk with the Lord
2) Trust - You should be able to trust a leader
3) Honesty - A man/woman of honesty has great character
4) Responsible - One who takes his own responsibility
5) Ambitious - One who will live each day with passion and integrity

What are some Leadership Skills you look for? Do you see them at your work place? School? At Home? Or even here on the Christian forum?

Interesting question, atonement.

I teach my sons, and daughter that Christ was the perfect leader, and anything that is conforming to His image is leadership...even if the world doesn't think so.

Humility...putting God first, and then others. Lack of self.

Loving...Evidence of the Spirit of God in them, and an ability to love others in spite of sin.

Servant...Leaders must be willing servants, and be motivated by pleasing God alone.

Forgiving...One who is quick to forgive, and apologize.

Patient...One who is able to endure trials, and see their value.

Obedient and Teachable...Able to hear the Spirit of God's teaching, and abide by it.

These are a few. The Lord bless you.

1) Honesty - This must be the first and foremost quality of a leader. All other qualities flow from this character trait.

2) Humility - To understand that to be human is to err, and that you cannot always be right.

3) Accountable - Willing to be held to account for any mistakes.

4) Intelligent - Must be able to speak logically and coherently on any number of subjects with great conviction.

5) Open - This goes hand in hand with intelligence. If you are truly intelligent, you leave matters open for debate. You allow for the possibility, nay, the inevitability of having your mind changed or proven wrong.

6) Orator - You must have a solid command of language for public speaking. You must be able to make those whom you lead understand your thought processes and policies.

7) Honorable - Your actions and words are held in great regard because you speak the truth, and are not evasive when confronted with criticism.

8) Ethical - Beyond reproach for questionable ethics.

9) Moral - You consider the moral implications of all actions you may take while leader. And you can do this without identifying yourself as religious.

10) Appreciative - Able to appreciate the wonder and beauty of mankind and the capacity for love. Able to appreciate the innate horrors of war and wish to avoid it at all costs.

Qualities that a leader should not have in abundance:

1) Ambition - Ambition can cloud judgment, ethics and morals. Ambitious men have been some of the most dangerous, wreckless and bloodthirsty men this planet has ever seen. One can have goals without being overly-ambitious to the detriment of society.

2) Pride - Pride corrupts the spirit of any leader and sets him/her down the path of certain failure. Many proud man have been leaders, and it has almost always destroyed the greatest of men.

3) Zeal - Zealotry can only lead to problems, whether it be ethical lapses, a skewed and contradictory sense of morality (i.e., fundamentalists of all faiths and beliefs), or the failure to consider consequences.

4) Delusions of Grandour - The want or need to be a famous leader will in many cases cause ethical and moral lapses in the leader, and thus will cause him/her to desire situations in which their talents can be displayed (i.e., war, conflict, etc.). Men and women who crave glory and who will stop at nothing to achieve it should never be allowed to be leaders. They are dangerous and in many cases immoral.
