well then , Nathan's mom has asked me to teach him to drive which I started to years ago but didn't finish due to that I couldn't take him on the road. I said to him that he would need a permit to be able to drive on the street. I have a 5 speed manual, with a new clutch, he first learned on my truck with its old and almost then gone clutch. he will feel the difference in when it engages. so pray for me and him. he needs to pass the exam and its online book is over 100 pages. I will read up on the changes, there has been some new lights that I know what they are but that is from observation such as the flashing red arrow for turn signals and also the traffic circle thing which wasn't around when I was learning to drive.

Can I pray for the people on the road with you guys, too? :missyou
I have taken him on the road way out west on this road you will know. rt 60. he wasn't that bad. he was scared and one of my coworkers saw me and thought of passing him to harass him.lol. im glad he didn't but it would be funny later.

Our motorcycle club, (often 40 of us), took 60 a lot, to avoid traffic when going over to the East coast. I'll bet being passed by all of us would really freak him out.

Not us..... We are very precision, and also wouldn't have passed him on the side of the road. Danged Ausies are nuts, I guess.

when and if you visit vero the notorious deadly twenty mile bend is less of a danger. ironically when I looked back at that road from the 40's(sr 30 not sr 60) it had a bomb range really close to it.

Oh, man I wish I could talk to him before you take him out, I'd give him a few "hints", to make it more interesting for you.....

see the edit, and they took that deadly curve. you can google on google earth sr 70 and follow it from ft.pierce, fl to Okeechobee and look for via prior 2010 the really sharp curve near the county line of st.lucie and Okeechobee county. it was sharp, you had to take that at 25mph

They flunk everyone on the first attempt of the written test, I don't know anyone who passed it the first time. I thought the driving part was a bit silly but I had been driving for quit a few years before I got it.

I cant remember if I passed the first time. when I took it it didn't have any driving to it. learner's permit don't. I had that for a year before I got my class e

No, that is true, usually you get your learner's permit and then take driver's ed, then go back and get your driver's license. It's expensive here, so a lot of people forego the driver's ed classes and do it on their own.

My prayers are with Nathan as he prepares & then takes to the road, jasonc. You're also in my prayers....as are the drivers who will be on the road at the same time. The last thing Nathan needs when driving is to encounter any 'stupid' drivers.

When I was doing the behind-the-wheel part of drivers ed, we had to spend time on a particularly nasty bit of 2-lane highway, with rather rough road surface. Well, I was driving & doing fine. Then an on-coming driver decided he liked my side of the road better than his. I laid on the horn, to attract his attention, then carefully maneuvered the big boat-size drivers ed car to the shoulder of the road to avoid a collision. The other driver had managed to return half-way to his side of the highway. Anyway, after getting beyond that 'stupid' driver, I carefully returned the car to the highway, and continued on my way.

Nathan doesn't need to encounter something like that at all!

I was over 18 when I got that.yes florida has that law on the drugs and drinking deal. that isn't that pricey.

for a bit more when I got ticketed I paid 200 bucks for that stuff and a bit more. of course now I get it for free. I have to take for the guard. I hate that test as its geared toward hormonally overdriven males aged less then 30. im well past 30.lol

It looks like that program only cost $49. That is very inexpensive. Mine was $400, it was a 6 week class. I think it's all a rip-off, if a person has someone at home willing to take them out and teach them, then I would say save your $$.

I wish I was there to "teach" Nathan. haha

that's just a class on drugs and so forth, not driving , the public school system used to teach the kids here. it was a charge but the fee wasn't much. I have taken drivers ed in your state. 50 bucks a day. I took it twice and did so on my lunch breaks for the army. I would work it where I would get on the bus and take the class and be back in time. with the chain approving. fellow soldiers would let me drive their cars. one of them an e4 and another e5. I also had been driving hmmv's at the time and so learning from that clumsly vehicle to a more limber Pontiac 6000 sedan and station wagon was interesting. note the irony of more limber.lol

I took my test in my dads chevette.

I've ridden the Dragon's Tail at Deal's Gap (Tenn/NC State line, Hiway 129)
Talk about 18 miles of sheer fun and terror.
Even drove it once in a Lincoln Town Car....... more terror, than fun.

11 of those 18 miles are really cool...
