I heard it sends mixed messages? Like it has you killing people...?

...don't do it. It got terrible reviews. Plus the concept of killing failed prospects for conversion just doesn't sound very Christ-like to me.

Not true. While you are able to have your forces in the game kill, that choice is not at all encouraged anywhere - from the game manual to the game itself to even the game's website. I have a blog series about the issue (that I've unfortunately not updated lately), which you can find here:

It got some terrible reviews from some unabashedly biased reviewers who very obviously judged it more on the fact that it was a pro-evangelical Christian game than anything else. Other reviewers who kept their personal biases to themselves gave it fair to good marks.

And there is no "convert or kill"-type violence in the game.
