[_ Old Earth _] Let there be LIGHT

It should be interesting when the results of the CERN hadron collider come out. It would be interesting to know if the Higgs particle is present; if not then it is back to the drawing board for many frustrated cosmologists and astro physicists. It will be interested to know what happened in the first few microseconds of the Big Bang that started this Universe. I get the feeling a priori that things are gonna get even more weird in that world of quantum state of which we can visualise little but understand only by math. :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :crazy :nag

And again, I would disagree. The Creator does have "something" to say about His creation. You are part of it.
We are not limited to our understanding of what God may have to say about his creation by reference to a work produced by fallible men living in a largely illiterate, pre-scientific culture. I would suggest that God gave out inquiring minds in the expectation that they would be used to understand his creation by actually studying it, rather than by depending for that understanding on ancient legend.
I wasn't speaking about any work produced by "fallible men living in a largely illiterate, pre-scientific" anything. I was speaking about the written and living Word of God. It was inspired directly by the Holy Spirit and is inerrant. It is the more sure word of prophecy and God specifically spoke about His creation and His acts of creation there.

It is my hope (and prayer) that you will be more able to see that one day soon. I mean that in a good way, really, and think you know me well enough to understand that I'm not just polishing apples when I say it. :nod

I thought the living word of God was in the hearts of men and not merely in a book. When Jesus asked us to seek the truth he did not refer to scripture but suggested we follow his way.
You may be correct but I will follow my Lord Jesus. :study :amen

- In those days they shall say no more: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children's teeth are set on edge.'

- But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

- "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah--

- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD.

- But this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

- No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."

- Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts [is] His name):

- "If those ordinances depart From before Me, says the LORD, [Then] the seed of Israel shall also cease From being a nation before Me forever."

- Thus says the LORD: "If heaven above can be measured, And the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel For all that they have done, says the LORD.

_____________________________________________

The Lord of Hosts is His name. Yes, He has written his ordinance in the heavens and has declared what you say is also true. His living word is promised to be written into our hearts and into our minds.

- I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

- And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

- For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

I will still tend to follow the ways of my God and the Lord Jesus, with the divine gifts they have given us.
Thank you for giving us the gift of the appropriate scriptures.

Well, it's my opinion that that is what you were talking about. The Old Testament may be the Word of God, but it is a word interpreted by fallible men trying to express ideas and concepts which they lacked the knowledge and vocabulary to understand. Inerrancy is not a mark of the OT, which is demonstrably a mix of inspirational message, legend, myth, folk-lore, nation-building propaganda, archaic social mores and parochially distorted history. This is not to deny the inspirational message of the New Testament in particular.
It is my hope (and prayer) that you will be more able to see that one day soon. I mean that in a good way, really, and think you know me well enough to understand that I'm not just polishing apples when I say it.
I have no doubts about your sincerity. Thanks.
