I was watching The Maury show and The Steve Wilkos show and they make heavy use of the lie detectors. Now my thing is, these are machines and no machine is 100% but these shows use the lie detector as the gospel. I don't believe that these machines are correct all the time, and if they are wrong, they can ruin peoples lives.

Those people are idiots. They chose to go on those shows, they get their moment of fame before the TV cameras.
The lie detectors would not hold up in a court of law and they know it. Shame on them for shaming their families.

I agree, I was thinking if I got in some trouble and I was trying to prove innocent, would I take one of them, and take a chance on it saying I am guilty when I am not ? But when you are in deep trouble you will try anything.

If you were in trouble, call an attorney, keep your mouth shut, don't make any statement, and don't ever rely on the interpretation given by the guy/gal that interpreted your response to a lie detector and the questions asked to get that response from you.
Any decent law class will tell you that and so will any honest cop. They just can't tell you that while they are a cop.

Lie detectors aren't all that accurate. I was reading about one guy...worked for gov't...he sold info in the 90s to some other countries...anyway, they gave him lie detector tests, before he was charged, and he aced them because he took some Miltown or something before the examination.

As for talk shows...man oh man, those things are ridiculous. I'm guessing that people go on them for some kind of cash payment? I could never do that.

I don't know reba, I just like watching those shows, I mostly watch shows like The First 48 and mostly all the real life crime shows, I should have been a detective. I also watch the TV court shows, I like them all except for judge Judy, I think that she is a idiot.

The First 48 .... Joe Schillaci.. liked that guy from the beginning...

Lie detection

Lie detection, also referred to as deception detection, uses questioning techniques along with technology that record physiological functions to ascertain truth and falsehood in response. It is commonly used by law enforcement and has historically been an inexact science. There are a wide variety of technologies available for this purpose. The most common and long used measure is the polygraph, which the U.S. National Academy of Sciences states, in populations untrained in countermeasures, can discriminate lying from truth telling at rates above chance, though below perfection. They added that the results apply only to specific events and not to screening, where it is assumed that the polygraph works less well.

one cant use a polygraph for employment and all leo applicants do have that test. its to see if you are willing to be truthful, not to try to jail you.

Lewis Knowing all that, would you take the chance on that whole processes proving your innocence? I wouldn't, it's just too iffy for me.

That would be the time to get before the Lord, and inquire of Him how to handle things. Be slow and deliberate if you can.

Matthew 10
19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;
20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

I believe how shows like Maury and Steve Wilkos take the lie detector as the truth and nothing but the truth so help you God.

men don't ever lie under oath.
