Life on other worlds

I'm aware of the scientific perspective of this, but from a Biblical perspective, does anything in the Bible suggest against life existing on other worlds?

DHR:

So what's behind your question...?

Nothing profound. I took an astrobiology course last term and found it incredibly interesting from a scientific perspective. I'm wondering what the Christian position is on life existing elsewhere in the universe. Personally, I don't see any argument against it, but anecdotally I've met some people who argue very strongly against it, without really providing any reason.

DHR: Okay, thanks.

Let's just look at the matter from a theological perspective. The Lord Jesus is the Word Who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1.14). Thus, it was to earth that the Savior came, to redeem a race of sinful creatures whom God had placed here on earth, and who rebelled against their Creator.

It is hard to argue from the apparent silence of Scripture; but I would be surprised if life that includes human life, were to be found elsewhere, apart from on earth.

I understand what you're saying, but couldn't that argument be taken backwards a step? I mean, Jesus chose to appear in the Middle East, not in the Americas despite there being people there as well.

I'm not suggesting human life; not even necessarily intelligent life. There's currently a reasonably strong case forming for life having existed on Mars at the cellular level some time in the past. Unless aliens land on the White House lawn, we're probably more likely to discover bacterial forms of life if they exist. I'm curious as to what implications people might ascribe to this.
