Photographs Log Cabin in the snow

I was just going through my Dad's online photo album and thought about this photo.

We've all been told by our parents, "I used to walk 4 miles to school in snow 3 feet deep"! And we hardly beleived them LOL!

This picture was taken in the mountains of St. Maries Idaho. Yup, my Dad really was born in a log cabin! (Not this one though, this one is much nicer than the old one)

I can post more if anyone is interested.

I'm pretty sure that this is the one he was born in.

Pretty cool!

Though you could tell your dad that he didn't need to walk. All he had to do would be to put a leash on that bear of a dog standing there, hop on a sled and yell "Mush"!

Love these Idaho winters. We woke up to our first snow of the season this morning.

Actually, I think he did hook one of his dogs up! LOL

We got our first snow last week, but it didn't stick. Did yours stick?

Hey, what do you think of these beauties (plow horses)? That's my Dad holden em, but I'm not sure who's house of luxury he was at... ! Man, can you imagine trying to plow with them! Dad said that it was too wet to plow that day...
BTW, did you notice the out house? :-D

When I was little we lived in a 'rustic house with a view' that had an out-house. Freezing in the winter, wasps in the summer, and stinky all the time. When it came time to move, (and we all were crying about having to leave) Mom sweetened the deal by promising our new house would have indoor plumbing.

LOL Handy. My Aunt lived above the lodge on Mt. Spokane and as a young child, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Auntie in the winter. Man is that coooold :-D

That got some old memories stirred... I'm sure you've heard of the John Wayne tp, you know, rough and tough and don't take no  off of anyone  Well, it aint got nothin on what Auntie had in her outhouse! Might as well of used tree bark cause them glossy magazines.. err.. well.. nough said! (ok, so I'm exagerating just a tad lol)

Anyway, I was always scared to use the outhouse in the summertime... cause I though something migh reach up and bite me! :smt065

Ahh, tales from the potty. it must be around nap time :smt044

Black Widow spiders are particularly found of casting nets across the hole in the seat. Used to be one of the more common ways to get bitten by them. I grew up in a rural area, and everyone knew the stick was to sweep the hole for spiders.

An interesting fact that I read on the Virginia Cooperative Extension fact sheet about Black widows is that the number of bites from black widows has probably dropped since the use of outhouses declined! Apparently black widows like to nest in outhouses since they are typically warm and dry places with lots of insects. It's just something you might want to think about the next time you're in the outhouse!
