LOTR-Return of the King

aww yeah - 24 days and counting my friend!!

In the same general subject, anyone seen the Extended Edition of the Two Towers? It is absolutly hysterical, my husband and I were positively rolling by the end, and I love what they did with Faramir's character - hes much truer Tolkien once they put the flash backs and a few other things in - Im much happer with ol' PJ now that Farimir is himself, that and Arwen's macho she-elf scene were my only two real big gripes with the film versions (mind you I said major gripes ;) )

Absolutely agree with the improvement on Faramir's character. That flash back added so much information and depth of character.

I'm disappointed that they have removed Saruman's destruction from the beginning of the third movie though. Now I have to wait a whole year more to see that. I was disapointed that it didn't conlude The Two Towers, although I understand why they made the decision on that movie.

Dude, our whole youth group and many of my Christians friends love these movies because of it's spiritual undertones. (you know, the whole good and evil thing) That and the fact that Tolkien was a Christian.

While you on the topic of respect, let's keep the language toned down please. Thanks. :)

I saw this movie a few days ago and it was great! Tolkien purists will probably not be too happy...there were quite a few changes...but I thought that it still made a great movie. I can't wait for the extended version to come out. The movie is long...about 3 hours and 15 minutes...(3 hours and 25 minutes if you sit through the credits like I did), but you barely notice because of all the action going on.

Best movie ever. Simple as that.

I have a few bones to pick with PJ, like how they never mentioned the name Dernhelm, and how (SPOILER) Merry was at the second battle, he wasn't supposed to be! And I can't wait for the extended version (three words: Houses of Healing!), it's supposed to be between 4 and 5 hours long!

I will admit they got some things right, Shelob, Gollum, and the stairs, the stairs! There were some things that made me want to shout NO! in the theater (the pyre scene). and the end. I felt the scenes with the elephants was just a bit too over the top, and the end was just another hollywood sail into the sunset ending. There was no feeling of the end of the age, no idea that the elves, and wizards were leaving forever, hardly any idea why Frodo was going. I thought the gray havens were portrayed like a thomas kincade painting. I could not believe they changed the end so much. What about the fate of Saruman? The raising of the shire? I have hopes that the DVD extended eddition will be better.

The extended edition will not have the scouring of the Shire in it. It just wasn't filmed. They do, however, put in Saruman.

And I've seen people around here lump Tolkien's works in with paganist writings *cough*willow the wip*cough.* So you never know what people will say. Actually, I kind of half expected this to be decrying the movie.

I LOVED IT! ME and some friends dressed up like the charters. We had so much fun! I saw it 3 times and can bearly wait till it comes out on dvd. Even better the extended virshion! :Fade-color :B-fly:
