God loved us first (1 John 4:11) although we rejected Him, were unfaithful to Him and killed Him. Love therefore is a one-way street-it is unconditional. When we are nice to some one because they are nice to us, it is not love; because, our niceness is conditional to the other party being nice. On the other hand, if we are nice to others irrespective of how they treat us, then it is love (Luke 6:27, 35). Therefore, when we exercise true love, we love, because, to love is our heart’s desire; and we desire to love, because, we love God, who is love. We will then love all without any distinction between friends and foes, hate none and forgive all from our heart. We will therefore love those who hate us the most the same way as those who love us the most, and will be willing to sacrifice our own interest in the process of helping them.

When we exercise true love we will never feel like a victim, never dwell on our own feelings, never get weary (1 Corinthian 13:8) and always be on a mission to love and serve God and our fellow human beings. Furthermore, when others hurt and persecute us, we will be concerned about the hurt they are causing their own soul by their acts, rather than the hurt they cause us. In addition, we will never condemn anyone, always have hope for them and do our very best to help them.

Good post...there is no way we could ever do that without God's love being shed abroad on our hearts. We're basically just a channel for the Love of God to flow through. :thumb

You speak the truth. What one of my favorite preachers, Kenneth Copeland (who I know most of you think is a heretic), said that one day he and his wife Gloria had just gotten back from some intense traveling and ministering. And he was exhausted and Gloria asked him to do something. And he thought "She doesn't care a thing about me." Then he said the Lord sternly told him "Whether she cares a thing about you or not is none of your business, you are to love and care for her period."

Yep, that's the God kind of love.

Totally agree, and well put.

I was listening to a pastor friend of mine talking about a counseling session he had with a man who was thinking of leaving his wife. The man had a whole list of "infractions" and "transgressions" perpetrated by her against him.

He tells the story of how he sat there listening to this guy, tying to minister to him and how he just kept getting back to the list......so, finally he says to him....OH GROW UP! As Christians we are to have a hand full of love in one hand, and a handful of forgiveness in the other. Offer both. Since you have only two hands if you hold both love in one and forgiveness in the other, you'll have no room to hold grudges, or pettiness, or anything else but.

The guy looks at him stunned...and says...."But what about me?" (meaning what about love to me) The pastor looks at him and says....."That's it. That's where you will find and understand and receive love."
