I hope to get John's input on this.

Describe lucid dreaming. How does one know if one is having lucid dreams? What are the dreams like?

I often find that if I'm woken up and I'm in the middle of a dream, the dream comes right back to me and continues. They say that some dreams last only 3 seconds, but my dreams feel like they last for hours sometimes.

Hey, Lucid dreams can be best characterized by saying that you actually are aware that you are dreaming. So, for example if you dream that someone is chasing you, and you are aware that, that is actually a dream, you can do whatever you want in your dream, as if you were awake, so in that chase you can become the chaser and not the chased.
About the fact that you heard that we dream only 3 seconds, it's not like that. The average time for dreams during the night, is 90 minutes, and we mostly dream around 5 AM. We dream every night, even though we cannot remember. Plus, even though you have the impression that you dreamed all night, it's not so, because the brain access some of our memories and some of our imagination while we sleep, so it actually puts everything and mix it, so we do not have a proper perception of time. Plus watch documentaries on youtube about lucid dreams. They will explain it better than i did.

"I've been here before!"
Deja vous
In the back of the mind certain circumstances can remind one, though distantly, of a forgotten dream. The remembrance never really surfaces to the conscience but leaves a feeling of recognition none-the-less.
It's a very strange feeling indeed but it's not anything paranormal, extrasensory or anything like that. But it IS more fun to play with those types of explanations. :D

While Lucid Dreaming may be common to some people, it is important we don't overlook the possibility of it being a message from the divine.
