Luke 1:53-55
KJV(i) 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. 54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

Luke 1:53-55
Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
53 He has satisfied the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
mindful of His mercy,
55 just as He spoke to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his descendants forever.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
53 We need to see our need to filled by Him, for those think they are filled they will go away empty. Rich often times would eat more than what they needed often viewed as overweight due to over eating because they had money to do so. Rich people can come to Christ but people who do not have a hunger or see the need for Him they will not receive Him.
54 Jesus came thru Israel. He came first to Israel, He sent the disciples first to Israel and He was an answer to a promise to Israel but He would bless anyone who would come to Him whether Jew or not a Jew. We need to have the mercy of Christ without we stand in our sins awaiting our punishment.
55 Abraham was the man God promised this but were later promised to Isaac and to Jacob who was also known as Israel. Abraham was promised that by him the whole world would be blessed this was referring to Jesus being a physical descendent of his but does not mean He did not predate him it just means He would be borne by Him but He always was.

like corrie ten boom said (in agreement with this and all scripture)

there is only one man on earth who Jesus cannot help ---- that's the 'good man'.

for if a man thinks he's good, Jesus can do nothing for him.

but if he knows he's bad(corrupt beyond imagination, without any way to help himself) and turns to Jesus, then he may be helped.

Hi Clark, I'm glad your first day at the College went well....Just to add a little something to your study, in Genesis Chapter 24 Abraham wanted his oldest servant Eliezer to go to his home town to secure a wife (Rebekah) for his son Isaac. He did not want Isaac to go there because he might stay there and not go into the Promised Land. He also didn't want Isaac to marry a local gal who was a Canaanite because that would "mix" the family line that Messiah would come from.

May God bless your time teaching at the College my friend. :pray
