Bible Study Luke 2:49-52

Luke 2:49-52 King James Version (KJV)
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Luke 2:49-52 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

49 “Why were you searching for Me?” He asked them. “Didn’t you know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” 50 But they did not understand what He said to them.
In Favor with God and with People
51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

49 Jesus would have known why they were searching for Him but unless He asked them it may have not came to their thoughts, it also opened they door for Him to share. They may have forgotten who His true Father was. They may have forgotten who He was and still is.

50 They did not understand, they did not have the Spirit to guide them in the truth as we do today.

51 Jesus being perfect was the perfect child even though He was and is God He obeyed the things they told Him to do.

52 Jesus had to grow up, He had to wait for the age that was accepted for a teacher to come, Jesus had to wait a time, we are to not jump right into things when we first come to faith, we have to grow first.

"Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them."
This was a part of His humiliation. "Christ humbled Himself". The Creator took the form of a creature because He was to become "obedient unto death". Christians are exhorted to be "clothed with humility". Ultimately the one who is least will become the greatest, just as Jesus was exalted and given a name above every name.

What is your view on the above words in Scripture Malachi?I have heard a couple different views.

Kathi,
Those who serve Christ with no regard to the admiration of men, or to their own position, power, and control over others, and with no ulterior motives, such as monetary gain, are generally despised. If you serve the Lord faithfully within whatever circumstances He allows, and do not compare yourself to others, you would be considered "least" in the Kingdom of God. However, at the Judgment Seat of Christ the Lord may give you greater recognition in front of all the other Christians than those who had made a name for themselves, and it may turn out that you were ultimately the greatest.

Do you think that those who are rewarded more because they were the least may have a higher position as far as ruling the nations? Also in Revelation we are told that we will be given a white stone.

When you study the parables of the talents, the pounds, and the unjust steward, you see that faithfulness in small things will clearly give those Christians higher positions of authority, whether ruling nations or cities.

As to the white stone, according to Unger's Bible Dictionary, one of the meanings (which I believe would be best) is derived from the white stone given to victors in Grecian games. So this would be some sort of special award to those faithful Christians (overcomers) who do not comprise with sin and idolatry within their church (Rev 2:12-17). This church in Pergamos had those who held to "the doctrine of Balaam" as well as the Nicolaitanes (false doctrine, idolatry and fornication, i.e. worldniness). Much of modern "Christianity" is in this state. The Lord intended to "fight against them".

Your statement on V.52 is so very much needed when a celebrity comes to believe on Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Some of them are shoved into the limelight right off, and soon fall victim to the devil's snares.
