Bible Study Luke 20: 27-40

.
The Sadducees' question was a non sequitur. There is no answer for those kinds of questions because they're based upon false premises.

For example in the movie My Cousin Vinnie, the prosecutor asks Ms. Vito what would be the correct ignition timing on a 1955 Bellaire Chevrolet with a 327 cubic engine and a 4-barrel carburetor. Ms. Vito responded, in so many words, that the question is impossible to answer because Chevrolet didn't make a 327 in 1955. The 327 didn't come out until 1962; and it wasn't offered in the Bellaire with the 4-barrel carburetor until 1964.

In other words the Sadducees based their question upon the erroneous assumption that resurrected people will pick right up where they left off and resume their past relationships; but that's not to happen. God has a whole other way of life planned for resurrected people that does not include getting laid.

Like weber said, these guys were just trying to one-up Jesus by catching Him in a technicality.

He basically just informs them that even though we may be married in this life, that upon death this relationship is no longer binding,as in the life to come in heaven we will not marry nor be given in marriage. Thus the woman in the given example, though married to seven different men, will not be anyones wife,as this aspect of life is no longer valid..a different system is in place.

Evidently God has something different for us in store, for reasons unexplained. Its just one of the mysteries that we have to wait to explore.
