1 This happens after His baptism. Jesus time was about to come and He was going to do what he had come to start. The Spirit lead Him in the wilderness, this may symbolize Israel being lead thru the wilderness.

2 Jesus was in the wilderness without food for 40 days He may have been tempted that whole time or just at His weakness when the days were almost up. Either way the Holy Spirit lead Him to the wilderness to where He would be tempted sometimes God will lead us to be tempted so we can further grow in Him. 40 days without food this may symbolize the time Israel was in the wilderness, they spent 40 years there, 40 days without food is a long time, it not said if He had water or not during that time.

He is the 'bread ' from Heaven
He is the 'Living water'
Not to knit pick (but only to remain as true to scriptures as possible) the Holy Spirit is the living water that Jesus gives. And yes clearly he is the bread from heaven / bread of life.

He may have been tempted that whole time or just at His weakness when the days were almost up.
I like your conclusion about how being tempted can cause us to mature in the Lord. Nice topic and comparison to the 40 days of the Exodus.

I do think that He was tempted after the 40 day/night fast.
Mat 4:1 Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil,
Mat 4:2 and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger.
Mat 4:3 And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God--speak that these stones may become loaves.'

The only reason that I pointed it out is because there are those who question this scripture.
Heb 2:17 wherefore it did behove him in all things to be made like to the brethren, that he might become a kind and stedfast chief-priest in the things with God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people,
Heb 2:18 for in that he suffered, himself being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

I think it is really important because people end up questioning the humanity of Christ and His ability to understand temptation and our weakness. It proves that He is the perfect mediator for us, having felt the weakness of man and having the perfect knowledge of God.
imo
No matter how righteous Moses was he was not perfect in knowledge of the intent of the law so could not perfectly fulfill the position of mediator.

The Spirit lead Him in the wilderness, this may symbolize Israel being lead thru the wilderness.
I think that is exactly what it symbolizes.

Where the Israelites failed, Jesus has succeeded and brought about that which God has promised his people.

Jesus is the true nation, and kingdom, and 'people' of God. We join that nation and kingdom and people when we believe and are born into that kingdom via the Holy Spirit.
