Bible Study Luke 4:5-8

Luke 4:5-8 King James Version (KJV)
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Luke 4:5-8 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
5 So he took Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 The Devil said to Him, “I will give You their splendor and all this authority, because it has been given over to me, and I can give it to anyone I want. 7 If You, then, will worship me, all will be Yours.”
8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written:
Worship the Lord your God,
and serve Him only.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

5 The devil took Jesus, this does mean that Jesus ever followed the devil but it was simply the Lord’s will for Jesus to be tempted by the devil. This shows that Satan has his own powers, his is the prince of this world but Jesus one day will set up His kingdom on earth and reign not as a prince but as King after removing Satan.

6 Jesus would one day have this ultimately Jesus would receive this by dying for us on the cross, Satan was trying to have Him choose the world over the cross but Him choosing the cross means the world to Him.

7 Satan wants to served as God is, Satan wants power.

8 We are not to worship anything other than God, He is to come first in our lives anything that is put before Him and His will for us becomes something that keeps us from worshiping Him.

Hello clark thompson.
Great thread.

This is how I see it (same thing in different words).

The devil is condemned to a world of perishables. The world, including the devil, is not self-sustainable. Everything living, of this world, is sustained by the fearful and dead. The devil/evil sustain energy by feeding of the bled energies of the fearful and the dead. Lifeforms also feed of the fearful (to ascertain authority) and the dead (all sustenance for the body).
Only the creative Spirit of God is self-sustainable, for it is Truth and Love, the creative life force of God.

The devil knows that it too is perishable, for the devil is not of Truth. The devil also knows that if God/ Jesus Christ validated (worshiped) the devil, the devil would become of Truth.

Truth is imperishable, it will remain after all has perished. If the devil became Truth, it would be like God, and imperishable. The exact reason for its invalidation.

In Luke 4:5-8
The devil is trying to get Jesus Christ to accept his validation and be validated. Jesus knows the Truth and will not empower the devil in any way.

Jesus confirms His origin is from God the Father, and is under God's validation, and no other.

Hi Hermit,
I think much of what you said is very well spoken.
But I am not sure what you mean by "lifeforms also feed of the fearful (to ascertain authority) and the dead (all sustinence for the body)."

Do you have an example, of how "feed of the fearful" and "ascertaining of authority" go together?

Thanks. :)

Hello About the Son of God.
Lifeforms naturally fear death. Those that died, without spiritual awareness, died in fear. Those that eat lifeforms, do so out of fear of starving and dying. In this regard, the fearful feed of the fearful.
In regards to the dead. All lifeforms feed on what essentially is dead to sustain itself. Worldly bodies (organisms) feed of other organisms.

Example of feeding of the fearful to ascertain authority:
Suppose a person feels they are not being validated, not heard and/or understood. This produces a threat (fear) to their self-esteem. They feel the need to regain their lost self-esteem (lost authority) and do so by expressing anger. They do this in the hope of receiving fear and submission from the other as a means to validate their own lost authority. They may keep this act of authority going until submission is received/due to them. Once they feel their self-esteem has been regained, they also feel in authority.
