Bible Study Luke 5:4-7

Luke 5:4-7 King James Version (KJV)
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

Luke 5:4-7 Revised Standard Version (RSV)

4 And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, 7 they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

4 This was how they caught fish they would drag their net behind the boat catching the fish in the net as they moved. Peter would have none how to catch fish.

5 Peter calls Him Master which shows he already knew who He was and still is, Lord. Peter knew that if he truly saw Him as Master that he should listen to His word, it did make sense to Peter because of the lack of fish they had caught that night, sometimes what He has us do makes no sense to us.

6 Sometimes He has us do things that makes no sense to us to show us His power and that His plan is greater than ours.

7 The showed His power to them and showed them by Him they can do anything He leads them to do, we can also do anything within His will by His power.

I'm in agreement with your view of these verses.

One of the more challenging aspects during the earlier days of one's Christian walk is obeying and following through when our Lord directs us to do something. Many times, the comfort level just isn't there for the task with which we've been assigned, and there are questions and concerns, perhaps even some degree of procrastination. But as we mature in our faith, we're like Peter in that we know there is a reason and a purpose for each and every directive our Lord gives us. And beyond everything, we know our Lord loves and cherishes us!
