Luther

This is the 2004 production that saw limited release. It starred Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther and Alfred Molina as Tetzel.

My review is as follows:

I absolutely loved it. Seen it four times now. Mac0486 as matter of fact has it in his collection, well actually it is his parents but he is been barrowing it.

I actually shed a tear after watching it. I was so moved by what Luther did. It great that he stood up to the oppressive, controlling, lyingâ€â€well basically corrupt Catholic Church. I still have my misgivings with the Catholic Church today but things were unbelievably bad back then. Thank God for Martin Luther…the Holy Spirit really worked through that man.

I thought it was great. It’s a very powerful movie. It was kind of slow at first, but I'm usually almost in tears when its gets to the end; to see the princes stand up to the king for Christ's sake, man, that’s something.

This is on my "very soon-need to see" list of films.

On an interesting note, I just spoke with a Roman Catholic friend (who happens to have a masters in Roman Catholic theology).

He actually really recommended it! Of course, he did point out the some of the distortions, but even he didn't make a big deal out of them.

So its sitting on my coffee table, hopefully tommorrow

Well blame the author of the Bible for my values....I get them from Him. :-D

I wonder what any Lutherans on the board thought of the movie.

That is a great question, anyone have any lutheran frined to ask?

Well, this is the puzzling part. I'm Lutheran, but it looks like I was the only one on this thread who found it to be:

I'm well aware of the history that the movie covered all the way up to the presentation of the Augsburg Confessions. I found the movie to be factual, but very dry, and this is what disappoints me. Movies about historical figures can be relatively accurate without being dry. The Passion of the Christ (minus the catholicisms) and Schindler's List come to mind.

The right blend of fact, artistic license, acting, and production can make a movie based on a historical figure great. I didn't find the right blend in this movie.

And Lutherans aren't good enough to be "friends" so they have to be a "frined"? ;-)

No Excuses, that was just poor typing on my behalf. Friend was the intent.....

Ah well. I should look at the bright side. You could have misspelled it "FIENDS." :-D
