Making Music

I sing, I play the Irish Tin Whistle, and I have a few other flutes I play (Chinese bamboo flute not so much though, it looks cool though haha), I can play a bit of piano, and I'm pretty good with playing by ear on most any instrument (except the guitar haha) but I can also read music. I'm hoping to acquire a Hammered Dulcimer and an Erhu sometime soon though...

So do any of you sing, play instruments, or anything like that?

My whole family is musical. My mother has plays a piano and flute, and has a bachelor in music (that's what she does for a living), my dad plays bass guitar, mandalin, alto saxaphone, baritone saxaphone, clarinet, flute and harmonica (YEAH! :D), one of my brothers plays the trombone and I play the drums and some piano. My youngest brother isn't old enough to start an instrument yet, but hopefully...

How cool is that?! hah yeah same here. Two of my aunts sing, one teaches piano, my cousin even has a cd (not in stores but here is her myspace: www.myspace.com/laellouthan) I have another cousin who has her own Celtic band, other cousins who play a handful of instruments, my mom can sing, my grandma can play the organ and sing, my dad has a guitar, my brother plays a trumpet, and ...I'm not sure I covered EVERYONE but thats the basics haha

Cool! :). My unclde is a professional drummer, and he's done a lot of stuff, you may know some of the stuff he's done, but I won't mention his name becasue of privacy issues.

I've played guitar for over 25 years. Started out playing Folk, then Rock/Pop, Country, then Blues and some Jazz. My mother said the Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman bands were the 'Beatles' of her day. So we got an early education in old Jazz, especially Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. On my father's side it was mainly Country and Bluegrass.

My heaviest influence is still Blues, since being from the South and as a kid having listened to Blues guitarists on the street corner downtown on Saturday mornings when my mother would go shopping.

Presently, I'm trying to re-do my one room basement studio I started back in the '80's. I was setup to do demo work back then. Someone dropped my name to a mixing/mastering engineer for a small Indie record label in Nashville a few years ago, and since then I've gotten up to speed on the digital audio technology, doing mostly editing and some song composition.

I got heavy into music theory years ago, though I can't read music real well. I used to be able to take a simple melody line someone wrote, and using counterpoint come up with a bass line and chord harmony, and then sequence the drums, bass, and keyboard parts while I played the guitar parts. I'm out of practice doing that now though (but I still could I'm sure). If I ever get my project studio finished, I'd like to do a Christian albumn probably using Pop and Blues styles.

So if any you all need advice in those areas, just holler.
