I've played guitar for over 25 years. Started out playing Folk, then Rock/Pop, Country, then Blues and some Jazz. My mother said the Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman bands were the 'Beatles' of her day. So we got an early education in old Jazz, especially Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. On my father's side it was mainly Country and Bluegrass.
My heaviest influence is still Blues, since being from the South and as a kid having listened to Blues guitarists on the street corner downtown on Saturday mornings when my mother would go shopping.
Presently, I'm trying to re-do my one room basement studio I started back in the '80's. I was setup to do demo work back then. Someone dropped my name to a mixing/mastering engineer for a small Indie record label in Nashville a few years ago, and since then I've gotten up to speed on the digital audio technology, doing mostly editing and some song composition.
I got heavy into music theory years ago, though I can't read music real well. I used to be able to take a simple melody line someone wrote, and using counterpoint come up with a bass line and chord harmony, and then sequence the drums, bass, and keyboard parts while I played the guitar parts. I'm out of practice doing that now though (but I still could I'm sure). If I ever get my project studio finished, I'd like to do a Christian albumn probably using Pop and Blues styles.
So if any you all need advice in those areas, just holler.
