1 Corinthians 1:19-25 (New International Version)
19For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."[a]

20Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

It seems clear to me that the above passage is warning about the man-made doctrines.

I never read anything into these verses that speaks to "man made doctrines". I've always taken this to be speaking to the prideful arrogance of those who think too much of their own intelligence to believe in the Truth. :shrug

Shad, you know the more aggressive stance we're taking on topics that are intended to reject the Trinity in keeping with our ToS and SoF. You've been very focused on this one issue, and if this is where you're going again, this will be locked and sent to Dead Threads. I hope you're not trying to skirt the spirit of the policy.

No "anti-Trinity" topics will be created. :nono

I don't see the above as referring to man made doctrines either.

For me, the above passages are talking about faith. It is not through signs, nor intellect, nor any of those other things that we come to God-- it is only through faith. I know the passage there does not use the word faith, but that is the message I get from it. It is also about man's prideful arrogance, and how he must rid himself of it in order to come to God.

These passages are not about "man-made doctrine". It speaks of faith. The Jews need signs to have faith. The Greeks need wisdom. We, the followers of Christ, have faith based solely on words in a book and love in our hearts. Paraphrasing here, but this ties in with what Jesus said about how those of us who will never see Him in the flesh, but still believe are truly strong in faith.

Another reason we know that this is not about false doctrine is because Paul already talks about this in 1 Corinthians and Paul has never tried to put the creations of false-doctrine into parables or hyperbole.

shad, please stop your repetitive attacks on the Trinity. You are no David, and God is far greater than a billion Goliath's.

The context of the Bible when referring to the doctrines of men is the talmud and oral law of the Jews which was not what Moses commanded. These false traditions are not the word of God.

Case example:

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. -Deuteronomy 4:2

Matthew 15:1-9

1Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

4For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

5But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

6And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

7Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

:shame

My biggest beef with the Jews is their talmud...

Mine too. The day comes when their blindness is removed.

I dont think I can comment about this any more without getting in trouble, even though I have many things to say.

So stop following them... :lol

This is not about traditions. its about faith in what is unseen rather than trusting your own myopic vision. Its about trusting God. Do you trust your parachute? then jump. If you do not trust it, you wouldn't dare. If we had time machines and took an ancient up and gave him a parachute and told him to jump, he would look at you like you are out of your mind if you think he will jump. Its about trusting God even over your own senses and understanding.

It is also about the glory of God, in that he says he will use the foolish to confound the wise. God also uses the weak to exercise his purpose. By using the weak, God's own glory is magnified. Sort of like macgiyver he does much with very little. He uses shepherds to conquer kings. All to the glory of God.

The OP passage can read in many things like many other messages of the Bible.

Yes, passages can be read many ways, but they usually only mean one thing which is, the original meaning intended by the author and this passage says nothing about man made doctrines or the doctrines of man.

The Bible says doctrines of man or something that clearly cannot be taken for anything else but man made doctrines and this passage does not fit the description.
