What Man Says and What God Says
by William R. Newell
Saved by grace alone!
This is all my plea:
Jesus died for all mankind;
And Jesus died for me.
MAN SAYS: "I do not believe that I am lost."
God says: "The Son of man came to seek and to save that which is lost."
Man says: "I believe doing right is the way to heaven."
God says: "By works of righteousness shall no flesh be justified in His sight "
Man says: "I am doing the best I can. What more can God expect?"
God says: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ"-and, "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent"
Man says: "My good works, my gifts to the church, my kindness to the poor, will reconcile God to me."
God says: "Men are reconciled to God through of His Son."
Man says: "There are others worse than I am."
God says: "There is no difference: for all have sinned." Man says: "I was born in a Christian family."
God says: "Ye must be born again."
Man says: "I have a noble nature."
God says: "You were by nature children of wrath."
Man says: "I think God will pass by such sins as I may have committed."
God says: "He spared not His own Son," when man's sin was laid on Him and, Christ cried out, "My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?"
Man says: "My small sins; my lies, white lies."
God says: "The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and all unrighteousness of men."
Man says: "I am willing to chances." God says: "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?"
What fearful folly to dream that God will treat you, the sinner differently from Christ, the Sin-Bearer; God must judge sin, and He has judged it, at the cross! Go into bankruptcy at once, as a lost sinner, and rely on the shed blood of the only Redeemer! God cannot lie! He has said: "To him that worketh not; but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Romans 4:5)
