Hello everyone, first time poster here. It's nice to be on board after being a reader for a while.

I have a question and would like to get some input. I also have my underlying belief about it which I will share.

In your opinion, do you think martial arts can be a good practice for a christian?

I know of a few christian martial arts programs out there.

I struggled with this for a long time, but I think I have concluded it CAN be if we do it with honor and recognize the glory belongs to God.

On the other hand, many martial artists I have encountered eventually give in to eastern philosophy and theology, which is detremental imo.

Thanks for the input!

Hello Gojubrian

This is a great Question. I have Christian friends that have struggled with being involved with Martial arts and living a life for Christ. Some things they cant share its not an open society.

I am a big fan of telling Christians that they should have a fair idea of how to defend themselves to get out of tricky situation. I used to box and I recommend this to every male. Evander Hollyfield is a great role model in my life

I think there are lots of alternatives for self defense and fitness. I have done some basic Judo in my Police days thats a purely defensive art.

Again great Question

Have you ever heard of the Israeli martial art Krav Maga? I saw it on telly last year and thought it was really cool. I think that as long as you have the right attitude about it then it should be ok. Besides, aren't there some places that don't teach with a great emphasis on the philosophical aspect?

I was discipled by one fellow for about 6 months then met the one who led him to Christ. Both were skilled in the martial arts and the latter used his prowess professionally as a bouncer before accepting Christ into his life.
Makes for one heckuva witness. :D
The two of them still workout as far as I know and it was a rare event that I'd catch them sparring together. They never flaunted it and I believe that within that humility lies my reason I never held their skills against them in spiritual matters. They both enjoy the arts, the exercise is advantageous and it doesn't stand in the way of their walk with Christ.

Yes, I've heard of it. I'm not looking for something to take up though.

Thanks for the replies!!
