thats crazy i was just watching a lecture on this same subject just a few days ago. not just the dumbing down process but specifically math over the last 100 years.

The "new" math is a joke. I retire and next year will sub only in kindergarten. I hate teaching the common core math to the other grades. One lesson I had (sometimes I have to fill in and sub when we're short) was 7 pages long for teacher instruction. It was a first grade class. Stupid. I found out what the purpose of the lesson was (as it wasn't yet obvious from the teacher's manual) and taught it the way I learned it. The kids caught on right away. duh I hope the new Sec of Education guts the Dept of Ed down to nothing. And rips common core out by the throat.

reba contest is over. Best post of the day, the week, the year, the millennium. Best in show. Best in class. Outstanding!!

All that said, I witnessed my children in higher level math courses at younger ages than I remember schools even offering back in the day. And I was a math major. They have a lot more homework than I ever had too. When I graduated in 85, 2 years of math were required. Today, all 4 years of high school, math is required to graduate.
