Matt Holliday's Slide

Was Matt Holliday's slide into Marco Scutaro clean or dirty? Players are taught to "take out" the fielder to prevent the fielder from completing the play, or to get the fielder to drop the ball. In this case, the second baseman was hurt but stayed in the game and later got two hits. He also got two hits in the next game. My concern would be the fielder's knee, which apparently was not injured in this play.

It was dirty. In a clean slide he would have hit the ground before the bag. In this one he landed on the bag and slid past it. It was clear that the purpose of the slide was to take out Scutaro. That being said, I don't really have a problem with it. This is the big leagues, the playoffs and the stakes are high. Aggressive play is to be expected.
