Hi Forum,
John 21 was brought up and the fact that Jeus mentions that John could live until He comes IF Jesus so chooses was not the high point of the biblical study.
Let's see what Matthew 10:23 says:
23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
Here, in Chapter 10, we have a description of how Jesus instructed certain people to preach the gospel. Those He gave instruction to are listed by name here
Matthew 10:2
2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
This is where Jesus told them to go:
5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
This is what Jesus told them to do:
7As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
Notice this verse of how these men would know automatically what to say:
19But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
This compares to what Mark says in his written report of the Olivet Discourse:
MArk 13
11Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
Here is that bit of information that Jesus Christ gives to the twelve named deciples........
23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
The lesson we learn here is that Jesus returns when those twelve or some of them are still going thru some Jewish areas. If it doesn't say that, what does it say?
