Meaning of Ogives?

Hello, what is the meaning of the pointed arches that appear in so many churches? I've looked it up but I only find nutty new age sites. I know it is a "gothic architectural feature", possibly adopted from the Middle East, but what meaning does it have beyond that?

You are going to have to be a little more specific. There are lots of "pointy arches" in gothic-style architecture.
